TONES OF GREY WITH BLACK JEWELLERY SET (Jasper, Obsidian & Lava Stone)

 Our necklace and earring set today hosts various types of Jasper, a touch of snowflake obsidian and is finished with lava stone. 

 

Jasper is an opaque variety of Chalcedony with a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale.  Snowflake Obsidian is a dark volcanic glass with a hardness of 5 to 5.5.  Lava stone is also known as Volcanic rock and has a hardness of 3 to 3.5.

 

The bulk of the Jasper in our creation is known as Picasso Stone, Picasso Marble, Black Line Jasper, Spiderweb Jasper or Silk Stone. 

 

Jasper is known as a soothing stone.  This stone is said to align us with the universe.  It is a connecting stone as well as a balancing stone.  It is said to assist us in our convictions, happiness, and confidence.

 

Snowflake obsidian is known as a stone of purity. It is said to be a wonderful protective stone and helps to alleviate negativity. Obsidian is the stone of choice when grieving, grounding, manifesting and healing.

 

Lava stone’s energy is known to bring strength and courage to those that wear it. It is said that the energies of Lava stone helps to curb our anger. Like most black stones, it is grounding and is used for protection. Lava is also a high energy stone and is associates with fertility. It is considered to help raise libido. Lava is a powerful stone for those born under the element of Fire in Astrology. It is also beneficial for those that lack fire and are timid or lack drive.

SAGITTARIUS - AMETHYST

The Zodiac sign Sagittarius has five different birthstones or sunstones.  They are ruby, topaz, amethyst, sapphire, and turquoise.   We are highlighting Amethyst today.

 

Amethyst is from the quartz family and has a hardness of 7.  This particular pendant showcases a natural Amethyst point.

 

Amethyst is one of the most popular of the healing stones and is considered the master healer.

 

Amethyst is a stone associated with sincerity, protection and purification.  It is also a calming stone.

 

Amethyst's energies are also associated with the psychic realm.

 

Amethyst comes from the Greek word methustos which can be translated as intoxicated. This stone has been used for centuries in association with sobriety and is also used for other addictions.  It is said that Amethyst assists with the elimination of cravings.

PYRITE

Pyrite is made of iron sulfide and can also contain small amounts of cobalt, nickel, silver, and gold. Pyrite has hardness of 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale.  Pyrite’s metallic luster has given rise to its nickname “Fools Gold” and is often found in gold deposits.

 

Pyrite known as a stone of protection and has been used as a talisman for protection and well being.  It is associated with self-esteem, confidence and willpower.

 

Pyrite is said to inspire creativity in many areas including the arts and areas of study that require perfection. Pyrite is used to stimulates commitment, ambition and perseverance. This is an ideal stone for students but also for the student’s Mother.

 

Physically, Pyrite is said to help with viral infections, including colds and flu.

 

Pyrite is associated with the solar plexus chakra (3rd).

CAPRICORN BIRTHSTONE - RUBY

 Birthstones for the month of December include the modern birthstones Turquoise, Tanzanite and blue Topaz, the traditional birthstones Lapis Lazuli and Zircon, the mystical stone Onyx and the talisman Beryl.  Also there are sun stones for Capricorn (Ruby, Agate, Garnet and Onyx) and Sagittarius (Topaz, Amethyst Ruby, Sapphire and Turquoise) as these sun signs fall within the month of December.

 

Today we are highlighting Ruby which is one of the precious gemstones.  Ruby is the red variety of the mineral Corundum and Sapphire is the blue variety.  Essentially Ruby is a red Sapphire and has a hardness of 9.

 

It is rare to find ruby on its own in metaphysically jewellery pieces.  Frequently it is found in Zoisite (a green stone) which makes it much more affordable. 

 

Ruby is a very powerful stone.   It is said to help us shake off limitations and promotes joy, courage and strength.  It is used to promote enthusiasm and enthusiasm in turn helps us to live life.  This stone is suggested during times of feeling exhaustion.

 

Over the centuries, Ruby has been used as a shield against negative energies.

DECEMBER BIRTHSTONE - ONYX

 We are continuing our focus on December’s Birthstones which include blue topaz, chrysoprase, lapis lazuli, onyx, ruby, turquoise, tanzanite, and zircon.

 

The Zodiac signs of Sagittarius and Capricorn, the two signs that fall in the month of December, include agate, amethyst, beryl, garnet and sapphire.

 

Today we highlighted Onyx.

 

According to “Gem Select”, Onyx is black and white banded agate (cryptocrystalline or chalcedony quartz).  Niccolo onyx, which has a very thin upper layer, allows the black base colour to show through as grey or blue.  Onyx has a hardness of 6.5 to 7.  Our highlights piece is Blue Onyx.

 

Blue Onyx has been used in rosaries for centuries.

 

Blue Onyx is said to releases stress, anxiety, worry and grief.  It is said to carry a soothing and healing energy and assists us with clear communication.

 

It is a sobriety stone especially when coupled with amethyst.

 

Blue Onyx is associated with the throat chakra.

DECEMBER – Lapis Lazuli

December’s Birthstones include blue topaz, chrysoprase, lapis lazuli, onyx, ruby, turquoise, tanzanite, and zircon.

 

The Zodiac signs of Sagittarius and Capricorn, the two signs that fall in the month of December include agate, amethyst, beryl, garnet and sapphire.

 

Tuesday we highlighted Chrysoprase.  Today we are highlighting beautiful Lapis Lazuli which is comprised of lazurite (25% to 40%), calcite and pyrite.  Lapis Lazuli has a hardness of 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale.

 

Lapis Lazuli is known as the stone of truth. It is used to promote inner truth, self-awareness and speaking your truth. 

 

It is associated with wisdom and good judgement. 

 

Lapis' energies is said to stimulate promotion in business and success.

 

This stone is associated with the throat chakra as well as the third eye chakra. 

 

Lapis Lazuli is used for ailments of the throat and ears and is said to helps with general pain and inflammation.

SAGITTARIUS TALISMAN BERYL - Aquamarine

Beryl is the talisman stone for the current sun sign - Sagittarius. 

 

Beryl is a relatively rare silicate mineral with a hardness of 7.5 to 8.  Beryl comes in a variety of colours, and you may know it more commonly by the gemstones of Aquamarine (blue/green), Emerald (green), Morganite (pink), Golden Beryl (Yellow), Heliodor (yellow), Goshenite (clear) and Red Beryl (red).

 

Today we will focus on the greeny or sea-blue coloured Aquamarine which gets its colour from iron impurities.

SAGITTARIUS' BIRTHSTONE - SAPPHIRE

The Zodiac sign Sagittarius has several different stones associated with it, including ruby, topaz, amethyst, sapphire, and turquoise.  

 

Today we will highlight the precious gemstone Sapphire.  Sapphire is also the traditional birthstone of September.  Sapphire is a variety of the minerals corundum and aluminum oxide.  It has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale. Sapphire is most commonly blue but can also be yellow, purple, orange, and green.  A red Sapphire is called Ruby.   

 

Sapphire is known as the stone of wisdom and is used to brings peace of mind.  It is the stone of prophecy.

CRYSTAL QUARTZ POINT

COPPER WEAVE CROSS WITH SILVER ACCENTS

 Copper has a hardness of 2.5 to 3 and it is the second-best conductor of electricity after silver.

Scorpio’s Planetary Stone – GARNET

 November’s birthstones are Topaz and Citrine.  The Mystic stone for November is Pearl.  Scorpio’s planetary stone is Garnet and November’s talisman is Amethyst.  Beryl is the Zodiac stone for November.

NOVEMBER - CITRINE

 As mentioned earlier Tuesday, November’s birthstones are Topaz and Citrine. 

 

Also, the Mystic stone for November is Pearl.  Scorpio’s planetary stone is Garnet and its talisman is Amethyst.  Beryl is the Zodiac stone for November.

 

Today we will highlight Citrine.

 

Citrine has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale and is from the quartz family. The colour of citrine can vary from light yellow to a light orange-yellow. Most citrine on the market is heated amethyst which may have been treated naturally by Mother Nature or may have been treated by us humans.  Heated Amethyst, sold as citrine, can range in colour from dark yellow to a dark red-yellow.  Smokey quartz can also be treated to turn yellow. According to minerals.net, all heat-treated “citrine” has a red tint. Very light natural Citrine can be marketed and sold under the name of “Lemon Quartz”. 

 

True Citrine’s energies are associated with abundance and it is known as the success stone.  It is also associated with happiness. 

 

Citrine is used to increase and clarify personal power and energy.

 

Citrine is also used to remove toxins and is said to be helpful with overcoming addictions.

November’s Birthstone - Topaz

November birthstones are Topaz and Citrine.

 

Today we are highlighting Topaz which has a hardness of 8 on the Mohs scale.  Pure Topaz naturally occurs as white but comes in a variety of colours.  Blue topaz is generally a softer blue but come in many shades.  Blue Topaz is a very popular stone second only to Sapphire.

 

Topaz, blue in particularly, is said to assist in strengthening a strong body which seems to come natural to a Scorpio individual.  We would naturally associate Blue Topaz to the throat chakra for clearer and stronger communications but it is also associated with the third eye chakra as it assists with the thinking mind and strengthens the thought process.

 

Blue Topaz is known as the visualization stone.   Topaz is also associates with friendship and loyalty.

SCORPIO BIRTHSTONE - CORAL

 We continue our look at the Birthstone or Sunstones of Scorpio.  Apache tear, beryl, aquamarine, coral, obsidian and topaz are the stones that represent the Zodiac sign of Scorpio.  Today we will highlight Coral.

 

Coral is a skeletal structure which is slowly built by small marine animals. Coral is between 3 and 4 in hardness on the mohs scale.  Natural coral is generally the colour of Carnelian but most coral used in jewellery has been dyed to enhance the red colour. 

 

Coral is said to aid in meditation, visualization and creativity. As a result, it is a suggested talisman for artists. 

 

Coral is used to attract love and increase passion and prosperity. It also used to assist in the creation of balance and in harmony with nature.

 

Physically, Coral is said to assist with circulation and blood issues as well as regeneration.

LABRADORITE

We were commissioned to create a pendant from this lovely Labradorite Cabochon and the client loves swirls.  Such a radiant piece deserved to be wrapped in 925 silver.

 

As the name suggests, Labradorite was discovered in Labrador, Canada. It has a hardness of 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale.

 

Labradorite has a wonderful metallic reflective quality when light hits it specific ways and is known for its lovely flashes of colour.  Labradorite has been associated with or compared to the aurora borealis. The pieces in our example today reflect wonderful blue, green and yellow tones.

 

Labradorite is said to enhance our intuitive and mental abilities as well as our ability to open up to new ideas. This stone is used to assist with dream recall.

 

Labradorite is a stone of choice for transformation.

SCORPIO BIRTHSTONE- APACHE TEAR

 We are entering the sign of Scorpio today and we thought appropriate to feature the Birthstone or Sunstones of Scorpio.  Apache tear, beryl, aquamarine, coral, obsidian and topaz are the stones that represent the Zodiac sign of Scorpio.  Today we will highlight Apache Tear.

 

Apache Tear is a common name for round small black obsidian nodules which are made of volcanic glass. Apache tear has a hardness of 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale. These nodules are brittle and chip easily so it is important to be careful when storing them with other stones. As a side note, I actually prefer the chipped nuggets as this give them dimension and more reflection….character if you will.

 

Apache Tear is said to be a good luck stone. 

 

Apache Tear is used to relieve grief and sadness. This is an excellent tool for those that give support during stressful situations.

 

Apache Tear is said to be grounding and is known to give protection.  Just as with black obsidian, Apache Tear used to protect from negativity in our surroundings and from within (such as negative thoughts and reactions). 

 

Physically, Apache Tear has been used for muscle spasms and to boost the immune system.

AMAZONITE

Amazonite has a hardness of 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale and is part of the feldspar mineral group.  Contrary to its name, Amazonite cannot be found in the Amazon River after which it was named but can be found in other parts of Brazil.

 

Amazonite is said to be a soothing stone that balances the male and female energies. It is used to assist in seeing both sides of all issues and to sooth emotional trauma. 

 

It is known as the stone of courage and truth.

 

Amazonite heals the heart and throat chakras. 

 

Keep Amazonite under your pillow to have clear dreams.

BALTIC AMBER

With the trees brilliantly displaying their lovely fall colours, I felt compelled to highlight the very popular Baltic Amber today.  Its brilliant yellows and golds are a perfect reflection of autumn. 

 

Baltic Amber is a fossilized tree resin that is used similar in the same way as any crystal, mineral or stone with jewellery creation.  Baltic Amber’s hardness ranges from 2 to 2.5. 

 

When amber is worn against the skin, the nugget or bead is naturally warmed by our body and the bead releases small amounts of healing oils (succinic acid). The oils are absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream and are noted to boost the immune system, reduce inflammation.  These oils are also used as an analgesic for pain. Baltic Amber is said to assists with varicose vein and increases blood circulation.

AMETHYST

 Amethyst is the purple variety of the quartz family and can range from light to dark purple and from clear to a solid colour.  The clear gem grade Amethyst is the most sought-after version of this mineral.  Amethyst, as with all quartz, has a hardness of 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale. 

 

Amethyst is one of the most popular of the healing stones and is considered the master healer.

 

Amethyst is a stone associated with sincerity, protection and purification.  

 

Amethyst's energies are also associated with the psychic realm.

 

Amethyst comes from the Greek word methustos which can be translated as intoxicated. This stone has been used for centuries in association with sobriety and is also used for other addictions.  It is said that Amethyst assists with the elimination of cravings.

 

In healing, Amethyst is not only used on those being healed but also is worn by the healer as it is believed that its energies heal the healer.

 

Physically, Amethyst is said to assist with headaches as well as assists and stimulates the immune system.

 

Amethyst is the sunstone for the Astrological sign of Pisces and traditionally is the birthstone for the month of February.

AQUAMARINE – OCTOBER BIRTHSTONE

 We continue our focus on birthstones of October which include aquamarine, beryl, coral, jasper, opal, and tourmaline.  Libra is connected to agate, lapis lazuli, peridot and sapphire, and Amethyst, Garnet, Ruby and Topaz are connected to Scorpio.  

 

Today, we are highlighting Aquamarine which is part of the Beryl family.  Aquamarine comes by its lovely greeny or sea blue colour from iron impurities in the colourless, glassy beryl crystal. Aquamarine has a hardness of 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale.  Aquamarine is also the birthstone of March, and a sunstone of Gemini.

 

Aquamarine is said to help us to calmly speak our truth and to have courage. The keyword for Aquamarine is courage.  It is connected to hope and peace. 

 

Aquamarine is used to help us move forward with positive changes in life by releasing events of the past.

 

Aquamarine is associated with the Throat Chakra.

OCTOBER BIRTHSTONE – JASPER

 As mentioned last week, October has several birthstones, aquamarine, beryl, coral, jasper, opal, and tourmaline.  Libra is connected to agate, lapis lazuli, peridot and sapphire, and Amethyst, Garnet, Ruby and Topaz are connected to Scorpio.   

 

Today we are highlighting Jasper which is from the quartz family and it has a hardness is between 6.5 and 7 on the Mohs scale.

 

Jasper, in ancient times, was worn by shamans and kings as it is considered a powerful protection stone and helps to ground.

 

Jasper is known as the supreme nurturer and its energy is slow and continual. Jasper is said to draw strength and vitality and to assists us in being loving and compassionate. 

 

Jasper is said to enhance tranquility and helps us to eliminate stress. Red (sometimes called Brown) Jasper has been used to assist when quitting smoking or other addictions as it is used to strengthen the emotional body.

 

Jasper aligns the chakras.

TOURMALINE

Welcome to October.

 

October has several birth/sun stones.  The month of October is represented by aquamarine, beryl, coral, jasper, opal, and tourmaline.  Libra is connected to agate, lapis lazuli, peridot and sapphire, and Amethyst, Garnet, Ruby and Topaz are connected to Scorpio.   

 

Today we are going to highlight Tourmaline which is a semi-precious gemstone with a hardness of 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale.  Tourmaline is a combination of several minerals; the most common or which are Elbaite, Schorl, and Dravite.  Tourmaline comes in a very wide variety of colours but today’s showcased piece is Black Tourmaline.

 

Tourmaline is a healing crystal that is associated with moving beyond old habits which in turn make change a little easier. 

 

Tourmaline is a powerful grounding stone and is known to enhance tolerance and understanding.  This is the stone of choice when a positive attitude is essential.

 

In ancient times, it was used to ward off evil spirits. Today it is still used as a shamanic stone for protection and purification.

 

Black Tourmaline has been suggested for wear at work for clarify and energy and is said to benefit those with stressful jobs to release anxiety and even anger.

 

Tourmaline is said to reduce toxins that cause chronic diseases and to cleanse the nervous system which again, as mentioned earlier, helps to create less stress, alertness as well as greater circulation.  It is important to remember that all healing starts on a spiritual level.

 

Black Tourmaline is associated with the Root chakra.

LIBRA BIRTHSTONE - OPAL

We continue our focus on Libra birthstones which are Lapis Lazuli, Opal and Peridot (also known as the sunstones of the sun sign Libra).  Agate is known as the Talisman for Libra and Sapphire is the planetary stone.  Opal is also the birthstones of October.

 

Today we are showcasing pink opal.

 

Pink Opal has a hardness of 6 on the Mohs Scale and is a blend of opal, palygorskite and chalcedony.

 

Pink Opal is known as a stone of hope, purity and health. It is the healer of emotions and is the stone for faithful lovers. It is said that this stone enhances our emotions as well as our spiritual self.  Pink Opal is used to keep us centred and calm. 

 

Used in meditation and with dreams, Pink Opal is used to arouse compassion and allow us to release painful memories.

 

It has even been referred to as the stone of the Gods. 

 

Pink Opal is associated with the heart chakra.

LIBRA BIRTHSTONE, AGATE

As mentioned earlier in the week, Lapis Lazuli, Opal and Peridot are the birthstones or sunstones of the sun sign Libra.  Agate is known as the Talisman for Libra and Sapphire is the planetary stone.

 

Today we are featuring Libra’s talisman, Agate.  Yesterday we highlighted Emerald, the traditional birthstone for the month of May.  Agate is also the traditional birthstone for the month of May. 

 

There are numerous types of agate, too numerous to list here.  We have decided to focus on Montana Agate which is also known as Moss Agate today.

 

Montana Agate is usually creamy light yellow to almost a blue clear colour which can appear almost waxy. Within the agate will be manganese oxide which creates the moss like colours ranging from browns to reds but mostly blacks.  Montana Agate has a hardness of 7.

 

Montana Agate is a balancing stone used to connect to Mother Earth and is said to assists with balancing our emotions. It helps us to feel balanced within ourselves.

 

Montana Agate is a powerful healer.

 

Montana Agate is used to promote good fortune. It is a stone of choice with Artists to promote with creation and inspiration.

 

Montana Agate assists in opening and cleansing all chakras.

LIBRA BIRTHSTONE - LAPIS LAZULI

 Lapis Lazuli, Opal and Peridot are the birthstones or sunstones of the sun sign Libra.  Agate is known as the Talisman for Libra and Sapphire is the planetary stone.

 

Today we are highlighting Lapis Lazuli which is comprised of lazurite (25% to 40%), calcite and pyrite. It has a hardness of 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale.

 

Lapis Lazuli was the favoured stone of the pharaohs.  It has always been associated with royalty and divine beings. Lapis Lazuli is believed to pass on the ancient knowledge and wisdom of Isis, the Egyptian Sky Goddess.

 

Lapis Lazuli is known as the stone of truth and is said to promotes inner truth, self-awareness, and harmony.  It is believed to be an excellent choice to assist in releasing stress and in finding peace.

 

Lapis Lazuli is associated with good judgement and wisdom.  Its energies are said to stimulate promotion and success.

 

Lapis Lazuli is used for ailments of the throat and ears and is said to help with general pain and inflammation.

 

This stone is associated with the throat chakra as well as the third eye chakra.
