AXINITE

Axinite is a group name for several closely related minerals and has a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale. It can be found in varying shades of brown, grey and black. Rarely, this stone can be purple, blue, green, yellow and orange in colour. It has a reflective quality similar to glass (Vitreous luster).

 

Axinite is known as the stone of truth. It is said to stimulate the mind and help with recall as well as assisting with focus, clarity and to find creative solutions.

 

Axinite is said to reduce fear so that we can face our thoughts and strive for independence. As a result, it is a perfect stone when experiencing change and transformation. For seniors facing life changes or young adults moving off to college or university, this is an excellent stone to add to their collection.

 

Axinite is associated with the Root Chakra as well as the Third Eye Chakra

AFRICAN TURQUOISE

Today’s highlighted stone is called African Turquoise. African Turquoise is not true turquoise but is teal Jasper mined in Africa. It has the same structure and colour tones as turquoise. African Turquoise has a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale and can range in colour from emerald to teal blue. The word “Turquoise” is derived from French and is translated as “Turkish Stone”.

 

African Turquoise is known as a transformational and evolutionary stone.  It is said to assists us in moving forward and being open to new ideas and concepts. It is said to help us open to change, growth and new possibilities.

 

African Turquoise is associated with wisdom.

 

Metaphysically, if you are seeking direction for your higher self and greater good, this is the stone of choice. 

 

African Turquoise is associated with the Third Eye Chakra.

AMAZONITE

 Amazonite has a hardness of 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale and is part of the feldspar mineral group. Contrary to its name, Amazonite is not found in the Amazon River after which it was named but can be found in other parts of Brazil.

 

Amazonite is said to be a soothing stone that balances the male and female energies and helps us to see both sides of all issues. Amazonite is traditionally used to soothes emotional trauma.

 

It is recognized as the stone of courage and truth.

 

Amazonite is known to heal the heart and throat chakras.

 

It is said to keep Amazonite under your pillow to have clear dreams.

 

It should be noted to handle Amazonite with care as it easily chips or cracks.

AGATE & QUARTZ LARIAT NECKLACE

An Agate Geode looks much like a potato from the outside. Inside the Geode is the beautiful surprise. Simply put, water containing minerals gathers and through pressure and other processes, the minerals and water harden over time to create this beautiful piece of shimmering deposit. Agate Geode’s have a hardness is between 6.5 and 7 on the Mohs scale.

 

The larger piece in this Lariat necklace is a slice of an Agate Geode which has the same healing energies as all Agate but a Geode also contains other minerals which enhance the Agate’s energies. Geodes are said to assist us in seeing the whole picture and afford us the ability to see things from different perspectives.

 

Geodes are used as a tool to help clear our minds for meditation and for de-stressing.

 

Agate is a grounding stone that assists in balancing us emotionally, physically and intellectually. Agate harmonizes the positive and the negative. It assists us with self-confidence and concentration.

JANUARY TRADITIONAL BIRTHSTONE -GARNET

 Garnet is the modern and the traditional birthstone of January.  Emerald is the mystical stone for January.  The two zodiac signs that fall in January are Capricorn with sunstones of Agate and Ruby, and Aquarius with sunstones of Agate, Amethyst, and Opal. The planetary stone for Capricorn is Lapis Lazuli and for Aquarius is Turquoise. Capricorn’s talisman is Onyx and Aquarius’ talisman is Jasper. 

 

Today we are highlighting Garnet which has a hardness of 6.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale and has been used in jewellery since the Bronze Age (in the third millennium BC). Garnet comes in an array of colours from the classic red garnet to red/violet, ambers, oranges, yellows and greens.

 

Garnet is associated with love and passion and is known as the stone of commitment.  Garnet is used to amplify and draws the qualities we are looking for in a relationship such as trust and devotion.  It has been said that its energy bring luck with love.

 

Garnet’s energies are said to push for success and to assist in reaching our goals.

 

Garnet is used to activate and amplify other crystals.

BALTIC AMBER

Baltic Amber is a fossilized tree resin that is used in the same manner as any crystal, mineral or stone in jewellery creation. Baltic Amber’s is a fossilized tree resin with a hardness ranging from 2 to 2.5 on the Mohs scale.

 

When amber is worn against the skin, the nugget or bead is naturally warmed by our body and the bead releases small amounts of an oil known as succinic acid. The oil is absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream and is noted to boost the immune system and reduce inflammation. This oil is also used as an analgesic for pain. Baltic Amber is said to ease issues with varicose vein and increases blood circulation.

 

Baltic Amber is also used for teething toddlers.

 

In ancient times, Baltic Amber was worn by children for their protection.
