VIRGO BIRTHSTONE - JADE

As mentioned a couple of days ago, we entered the sun sign of Virgo on August 22, 2021.  Virgo’s sunstones or birthstones include Carnelian, Jade, Jasper, Moss Agate, and Blue Sapphire. Today, we are highlighting Jade.

 

Jade is Nephrite and/or Jadeite but there are many minerals that claim to be Jade which are not.  Jadeite has a hardness of 6.5 to 7 and Nephrite is slightly softer.  Jade though known of its many shades of green (which is caused by iron) can come is a variety of colours including green, white, orange, yellow, lavender, grey and black.

 

Jade is known as the dream stone and is said to bless everyone it touches. It is also said to offer peace through strength and a sense of calm.  It is known as the protection stone, a stone of good fortune and prosperity.

 

Jade is said to offer good luck and friendship.

 

Physically, it is used as a healing stone and a talisman for those who heal.

 

Jade is connected to the heart chakra.

VIRGO BIRTHSTONE - Jasper

Jasper is from the quartz family and has a hardness of between 6.5 and 7 on the Mohs scale.

 

Jasper, in ancient times, was worn by shamans and kings as it is said to be a powerful protection stone and helps to ground.

 

Jasper is known as the supreme nurturer and its energy is slow and continual. Jasper is said to draw strength and vitality and assists us in being loving and compassionate.

 

Jasper is said to enhance tranquility and helps us to eliminate stress.

 

Jasper in general aligns the chakras.

ROSE QUARTZ

 Rose quartz as suggested by its name is a member of the Quartz family and has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.  The colour is usually muted but occasionally can be found as a vivid pink. Rose quartz is generally not treated.

 

Rose quartz is known as the stone of love - love for others AND love for self. It is said to be a crystal of high energy and unconditional love for any situation.

 

Rose quartz is used for self-esteem and self-worth. Its loving energies is said to teach us to apply this love to ourselves. This in turn assists us with our own self-worth.

Rose quartz is known as calming and perfect for crisis.  It is said to assist in learning how to accept change and deal with unexpressed emotions and grief.

 

Rose quartz has been worn to assist fertility.

 

Rose quartz is associated with the heart chakra.

HEMATITE

 Hematite is an iron oxide with trace amounts of titanium.  It is a myth that Hematite is magnetic on its own.  Hematite is only magnetic if it contains enough magnetite to attract it to a magnet.   Hematite has a hardness of 5.5 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale.

 

Hematite is used for grounding, enhancing expansion and protection. It is associated with peace and harmony, and is used metaphysically to harmonizes the spirit, mind and body.

 

It is said to stimulate memory, concentration and focus. It is used to assist with addictions during the inventory stage of the program.

 

Physically, Hematite is said to help with blood supply and is said to be beneficial for leg cramps and anxiety.

 

Hematite is associated with the root chakra.

ARAGONITE

 Aragonite is a calcium carbonate which is very similar to Calcite.  Aragonite can range in colour from colourless to white, brown, grey, yellowy red, pink, orange, purpley green and blue.  Aragonite has a hardness of 3.5 to 4 on the mohs scale.

 

Aragonite is said to reduce anger and stress and to increases energy, boost self-confidence and feelings of self-worth.   It is known to calm and centre.

 

Metaphysically, Aragonite assists with recall of past lives.

 

Aragonite is a grounding stone and is renounced for creating a connection with Mother Earth.  It is associated with the base chakra.

APOPHYLLITE PENDANT

Apophyllite is the general name for the grouping of three sub classifications - Fluorapophyllite, Hydroxyapophyllite and Natroapophyllite.  Apophyllite has a hardness of 4.5 to 5 and usually comes in the pyramid form.  Apophyllite can come in a variety of colours but the most popular is clear.

 

Apophyllite is said to carry the Akashic Record and is a powerful vibration transmitter. 

 

Apophyllite is a must in Reiki healing.

 

Apopyllite is used as a tool for developing intuition and its energies are said to be inspirational. This is the ideal tool when working with the higher chakras.  In particular, Apopyllite is invaluable when working with the third eye and Crown Chakras as it is predominantly a spiritual crystal.

 

In a nutshell, Apopyllite is a perfect metaphysical tool which will enhance our abilities and build our trust in these abilities.

ANGELITE

Angelite is a blue/grey variety of Anhydrite and was discovered in Peru in the 1980’s.  Angelite has a hardness of 3 to 3.5 which makes it popular for carving.

 

Angelite is known as a higher vibration crystal and is a perfect stone for use in meditation, akashic records, visualization, telepathy, astro travel, etc. It is said to have a connection with our spirit guides and our higher self; thus, the name (angelic communications). It is used to enhance our psychic and astrological connections as well.

 

Angelite’s energies have also been associated with feeling calm and at ease.  This is said to be an excellent stone when working with anger and fear issues.

 

Angelite is associated with and works with the throat, third eye and crown chakras.

RUBY – AUGUST BIRTHSTONE

 Birthstones for the month of August include alexandrite, carnelian, diamond, peridot, ruby, sardonyx, and sapphire.  In Astrology, the signs of Leo and Virgo which fall in the month of August include citrine, jade, jasper, onyx, tourmaline and zircon,

 

Ruby is one of the precious gemstones.  Ruby is the red variety of the mineral Corundum and Sapphire is the blue variety.  Essentially, Ruby is a red Sapphire and has a hardness of 9.

 

It is rare to find ruby on its own in metaphysically jewellery pieces.  Frequently it is found in Zoisite (a green stone) which makes it much more affordable.  Today our highlighted piece is Ruby in Zoisite created in copper.

 

Ruby is known as a very powerful stone.   It is said to help us shake off limitations and promotes joy, courage, strength and enthusiasm.  Enthusiasm in turn helps us to live life.  This stone is suggested during times of exhaustion. 

 

Over the centuries, Ruby has been used as a shield against negative energies.

 

Ruby is said to promote love and amplifies energy.  It is a talisman for sex and love.

 

Ruby stimulates the base or root chakra.
