Fluorite has a hardness of 4 on the Mohs scale and is a form of calcium fluoride.  This mineral can range in colour from clear to black.  Fluorite is naturally clear but impurities are what give Fluorite its range in colour.  The most popular colours in jewellery are purple and then green.

Pyrite is made of iron sulfide and can also contain small amounts of cobalt, nickel, silver, and gold. Pyrite has hardness of 6 to 6.5.  Pyrite’s metallic luster has given rise to its nickname “Fools Gold”.  However, Pyrite is often found in gold deposits.

Pyrite is a stone of protection and has been used as a talisman for protection and well being.  It is associated with self-esteem, confidence and willpower.

BALTIC AMBER - HEALING

With disease and healing as my focus today, I am going to take a look at how we can deal with the initial discomfort.  With that in mind, I think of Baltic Amber.

Baltic Amber is a fossilized tree resin that is used similarly to any other crystal, mineral or stone in jewellery creation.  Its hardness ranges from 2 to 2.5. 

When amber is worn against the skin, the nugget or bead is naturally warmed by our body heat and the bead releases small amounts of healing oils (succinic acid). The oils are absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream and boost the immune system, reduce inflammation and are an analgesic used for pain. SAGITTARIUS SUNSTONE/BIRTHSTONE SAPPHIRE

As mentioned yesterday, the Zodiac sign Sagittarius has several different stones, including ruby, topaz, amethyst, sapphire, and turquoise.   In the past couple of days we have highlighted Beryl, the talisman for Sagittarius and the precious gemstone Ruby.

SAGITTARIUS BIRTH OR SUNSTONE - RUBY

CITRINE

Citrine has a hardness of 7 and is from the quartz family. The colour of citrine can vary from light yellow to a light orange-yellow. Most citrine on the market is heated amethyst which may have been treated naturally by Mother Nature or may have been treated by man.  Heated Amethyst, sold as citrine, can range in colour from dark yellow to a dark red-yellow.  Smokey quartz can also be treated to turn yellow. According to minerals.net, all heat-treated “citrine” has a red tint. Some very light natural Citrine can be sold under the name of “Lemon Quartz”. 

Citrine’s energies are associated with abundance and it is known as the success stone.  It is also associated with happiness.

Coral puts me in mind of Christmas at this time of year so we thought we would highlight Coral for the up and coming holiday season.
