APACHE TEARS OBSIDIAN

Apache Tears is a common name for round small black obsidian nodules which are made of volcanic glass. Apache tears are 5 to 5.5 hardness on the Mohs scale. These stones are brittle and chip easily so it is important to be careful when storing them with other stones. As a side note, I actually prefer the chipped nuggets as this give them dimension and more reflection….character if you will.

Apache tears are good luck stones. 

Apache tears are used to relieve grief and sadness. This is an excellent tool for those that give support during stressful situations.

Apache tears are grounding and are known to give protection.  Just as with black obsidian, Apache tears protect us from negativity in our surroundings and from within (such as negative thoughts and reactions). 

Physically, Apache Tears have been used for muscle spasms and to boost the immune system.

Lapis Lazuli is comprised of lazurite (25% to 40%), calcite and pyrite. It has a hardness of 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale.

Lapis Lazuli was the favoured stone of the pharaohs.  It has always been associated with royalty and divine beings. Lapis Lazuli is believed to pass on the ancient knowledge and wisdom of Isis, the Egyptian Sky Goddess.

Lapis Lazuli is the stone of truth. It promotes inner truth, self-awareness, harmony and is an excellent choice to assist in releasing stress and in finding peace.

Lapis Lazuli is associated with good judgement and wisdom.

Its energies are said to stimulate promotion and success.

CARNELIAN

Carnelian is chalcedony quartz and is a 6.5 to a 7 in hardness on the Mohs scale. 

Carnelian is a grounding and stabilizing stone.  It has high energy which makes it a motivational stone.

In ancient times, Carnelian was considered an amulet or talisman. Carnelian is the stone to help remove fear and to create courage.  It is used for concentration and to calms anger.

Carnelian is also associated with creativity and stimulates energy and drive.

In healing it is said to influence the female reproductive organs and is beneficial for depression.

Carnelian has been listed as an ancient birthstone for both May and July.  It is also the Sunstone of Virgo.

BLACK AGATE

Agate, which is from the quartz family, has a hardness of 6.5 to 7 and comes in a variety of colours and bands.   Our featured agate today is called “Black Agate”.

Black Agate is a stone/mineral said to assist us in dealing with stress and in remaining calm. This provides inner strength and emphasizes courage.  It could be called the worry stone.

As with most black stones and minerals, Black Agate is a grounding tool and is associated with our root chakra.

Black Agate is also associated with fertility and the reproductive organs. It is a perfect energy choice for pregnancy and menopause. 

The moon which represents our emotions is an ideal charm to accompany black agate which all have been placed on a pendant base which represents emotional cycles and energy.  The Lunar charm could be replaced with a fertility goddess to focus on the fertility energies or any other charm of choice for that matter

CLEAR CRYSTAL QUARTZ POINT

We were provided with a blue quartz necklace and asked to recreate it into a simple collar. Our client insisted on copper findings for energy flow purposes.

Blue quartz comes by its colour from inclusions. There are three different types of blue quartz. There is the course grained blue quartz with inclusions of blue minerals such as Dumortierite. The second type is a crystalline quartz which has a more even distribution of blue minerals such as tourmaline and the third type of blue quartz crystal has a very fine scattering of tiny inclusions. Like most other quartz, blue quartz has a hardness of 7.

Blue quartz is known for its balancing energies. It is suggested that this stone be used for those whose emotions are extreme or for those whose emotions are difficult to bring out to be expressed.

When we are able to express and deal with our own emotions, only then can we have the ability to understand other people’s emotions.

BLUE QUARTZ COLLAR

The highlighted earrings today contain man-made faceted bicone crystals.  These crystals are created by various companies such as Swarovski in Austria.  They generally have a hardness of 6.5 to 7.  The lead oxide is what gives these crystals such pure, clear transparency.

MAN-MADE CRYSTALS

SANDALWOOD, BASALT & TIBETAN DZI AGATE

This bracelet has been created using Sandalwood and Lava stone, and the centre is a Tibetan Dzi Agate bead.  

Briefly, the Tibetan Dzi Agate (sometimes called Tibetan Onyx) is said to have positive spiritual benefits.   It is used to heal the mind, body and soul.  It is also said to bring wealth in an earthly form as well as health.

Sandalwood is cultivated from the wood of a tree in Indian.   It is sacred wood and frequently is used in Mala beads (prayer beads).  Sandalwood is known for its scent and is commonly used for incense. Metaphysically, it is used for its protective energies and when worn, its energies assist with anxiety, stress and depression.  It promotes spiritual awareness and is an excellent meditation tool.

Angelite is a blue/grey variety of Anhydrite which was discovered in Peru in the 1980’s. Angelite has a hardness of 3 to 3.5 which makes it popular for carving.

We were commissioned to create a specific pendant the base of which was to be a key.  The seven chakras were to be represented but all chakras were to be represented by Amethysts.  The pendant was to be completed with a copper chain to conduct the energies of the Amethyst.

Amethyst is one of the most popular of the healing stones and is considered the master healer.

Amethyst is a stone associated with sincerity, protection and purification.  It is a calming stone.

Amethyst's energies are also associated with the psychic realm.

The Eye of Horus ("all seeing eye") is an ancient Egyptian symbol representing royal power, protection and good health. This symbol was and is a protective amulet. 

The Egyptians used the Eye of Horus as a notation of measurement particularly for measuring the ingredients in medicines and pigments. The symbol was divided into six parts, representing the shattering of Horus´ eye into six pieces. Each of these six pieces was associated with one of the six senses (smell, sight, thought, hearing, taste and touch) and was a specific fraction.

Apatite is a group of phosphate minerals, including hydroxylapatite, fluorapatite and chlorapatite but Fluorapatite is most commonly used in jewellery.  Apaptite hardness is 5 on the Moh scale.  Apatite can greatly vary in colour.  It can be colourless, white, yellow, brown, gray, red, pink, purple, blue,  and green but most specimens are multi-coloured. 

Apatite is a spiritual stone and is beneficial in accessing the Akashic records and clearing our Auras.

Citrine (the larger central yellow beads) is the "success" stone and is known for abundance. It is also associated with happiness and is said to increase and clarify personal power and energy.
