CELESTITE (CELESTINE)

Celestite has a hardness of 3 to 3.5 on the Mohs scale. Its colours include blue, orange, light brown, green/blue and clear. Do not leave Celestite in direct sunlight as its colour will fade.

 

Celestite is known as the Angel or angelic stone and is said to connect us to divine energy.

 

Angelic guidance and wisdom is said to be called upon when praying or meditating with Celestite. Celestite is used to assist with astro travel and is said to be the perfect tool for developing physic abilities.

CALCITE & AGATE

Calcite has a hardness of 3 on the Mohs scale and ranges in colour from colourless to all colours of the rainbow plus.

 

Agate is a banded stone which makes it stand out from any other Chalcedony.  It has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.

 

Calcite is used as an amplifier and cleanser particularly of unwanted energies. It is said to use Calcite to recognize and move beyond old habits and beliefs. Orange Calcite in particular is said to have creative energies and to give us the motivation and inspiration to push forward. It is also associated with wealth and abundance.

 

Agate is a slow and low vibrational stone. Sure but steady, its energetic effects will take time to manifest but will have wonderful long term benefits.

LABRADORITE

As the name suggests, Labradorite was discovered in Labrador, Canada. It has a hardness of 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale.

 

Labradorite has a wonderful metallic reflective quality when light hits it on specific angles It is known for its lovely flashes of colour. Labradorite has been associated with or compared to the aurora borealis. The pieces in our example today reflect wonderful blue, green and yellow tones.

 

Labradorite is said to enhance our intuitive and mental abilities as well as our ability to open to new ideas. Metaphysically, this stone is used to assist with dream recall.

CITRINE & AMBER

Today we are highlighting Citrine and Baltic Amber showcased in these lovely drop earrings created with copper.

 

Citrine has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale and is from the quartz family. The colour of citrine can vary from light yellow to a light orange-yellow. Most citrine on the market is heated amethyst which may have been treated naturally by Mother Nature or may have been treated by we humans.  Heated Amethyst, sold as citrine, can range in colour from dark yellow to a dark red-yellow.  Smokey quartz can also be treated to turn yellow. According to minerals.net, all heat-treated “citrine” has a red tint. Some very light natural Citrine can be sold under the name of “Lemon Quartz”.

 

Citrine is known as the "success" stone and for its abundance qualities. It is also associated with happiness and is said to increase and clarify personal power and energy.

 

Baltic Amber is a fossilized tree resin that is used similar to any crystal, mineral or stone in jewellery creation.  Baltic Amber has a hardness ranging from 2 to 2.5 on the Mohs scale.

 

Baltic Amber is associated with desire, sensuality and romantic tenderness. It is said that it is used to find lasting love.

Charoite is a silicate mineral with a hardness of 4.5 to 6 on the Mohs scale.  It comes is a variety of purples and can contain black, green and orange as well.

TRIDACNA (with Waxing Moon)

Tridacna beads are made from saltwater clam shells and are white.

 

Tridacna is known as one of the Seven Treasures of Buddhism.

Garnet has been used in jewellery since the Bronze Age (in the third millennium BC)  Garnet comes in an array of colours from the classic red to red/violet, ambers, oranges, yellows and greens.  Today’s highlighted garnet is a deep red which only reflects back under light. Rose quartz as suggested by its name is a member of the Quartz family and has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.  The colour is usually muted but occasionally can be found as a vivid pink. Rose quartz is generally not treated.

 

Rose quartz is known as the stone of love - love for others AND love for self. It is said to be a crystal of high energy and unconditional love for any situation.

PEARL (SUN SIGN CANCER)

In celebration of entering the sun sign Cancer, we are highlighting the sunstone Pearl. A pearl is a growth formed within the shell of a pearl oyster or other types of mollusk. Pearl is one of the most ancient of gemstones and can be found in many colours from white to black (dark hues such as grey, charcoal, metallic and dark purple).  Pearls have a hardness of 2.5 and as a result, scratch easily.

PEACH MOONSTONE

Moonstones come in a variety of colors range from colorless to gray, brown, yellow, green, or pink. The clarity ranges from transparent to translucent. Moonstone is from the Feldspar family and has a hardness of 6 on the Mohs scale.

 

Today we are highlighting Peach Moonstone.

Angelite is a blue/grey variety of Anhydrite and was discovered in Peru in the 1980’s. Angelite has a hardness of 3 to 3.5 which makes it popular for carving.

 

Angelite is known as a higher vibration crystal and is a perfect stone for use in meditation, akashic records, visualization, telepathy, astro travel, etc. It is said to have a connection with our spirit guides and our higher self; thus, the name (angelic communications). APATITE

Apatite is a group of phosphate minerals, including hydroxylapatite, fluorapatite and chlorapatite but Fluorapatite is most used in jewellery. Apaptite’s hardness is 5 on the Moh scale.  Apatite can greatly vary in colour.  It can be colourless, white, yellow, brown, gray, red, pink, purple, blue, and green but most specimens are multi-coloured.

 

Apatite is a used as a spiritual stone and is said to be beneficial in accessing the Akashic records and clearing our Auras.

 

Blue Apatite, in particular, is used to motivate and clear the way so that we can reach our objectives. It is said to assist in our awakening and is associated with our focus.

Amethyst is a purple variety from the quartz family and can range from light to dark purple and from clear to a solid colour. The clear gem grade Amethyst is the most sought-after version of this mineral. Amethyst, as with all quartz, has a hardness of 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale.

 

Amethyst is one of the most popular of the healing stones and is considered the master healer.

 

Amethyst is a stone associated with sincerity, protection and purification. Amethyst's energies are also associated with the psychic realm.

FREEFORM BALTIC AMBER

 This unique freeform polished Baltic Amber was brought to me, and I was commissioned to create a pendant. The client normally prefers copper wire for energy flow but suggested the Amber deserved at least gold fill wire (gold-filled for strength as opposed to gold).

 

The Baltic Amber was wrapped in a way not to hide any part of the Amber piece and to allow its natural beauty to be framed.

 

Gold-filled wire is said to bring success, happiness and understanding. It is said to assist in making us attuned with all (including people) that surrounds us while Baltic Amber is associated with desire, sensuality and romantic tenderness. It is said that it was used to find lasting love.

 

When Amber is worn against the skin, the nugget or bead is naturally warmed by our body and a small amounts of healing oils (succinic acid) is released and absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream. LARVIKITE (Norwegian Moonstone)

 

Larvikite contains a high percentage of the mineral anorthoclase but also contains feldspar which gives it the blue reflective qualities. Larvikite has a hardness of 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale.

 

Larvikite is used as a grounding and protective stone which originated from Norway (also known as Black Labradorite or Norwegian Moonstone).

Apophyllite is the general name for the grouping of three sub classifications - Fluorapophyllite, Hydroxyapophyllite and Natroapophyllite. Apophyllite has a hardness of 4.5 to 5 and usually comes in the pyramid form. Apophyllite can come in a variety of colours but the most popular is clear.

 

Apophyllite is said to carry the Akashic Record and is a powerful vibration transmitter.

 

Apophyllite is a must in Reiki healing.

RUTILATED QUARTZ

Rutilated Quartz can be identified by the rutile crystal inclusions in the clear quartz. This particular stone has golden threads or needles of Titanium Oxide throughout. (My picture did not capture it well so I have included a second picture)

 

Rutilated Quartz is known as the "moving energy" crystal. Rutile is known for its intense energy and quartz magnifies the energy of other stones.

 

Rutilated Quartz is said to help with focus and with making positive decisions. Its energies are said to uplifting and helps us to overcome our fears.

Petrified wood is a fossilized wood but the organic materials of the wood have been replaced by minerals such as Jasper and Chalcedony. This stone has a hardness of 6.5 to 7.

 

Like most other fossils, petrified wood is used as a grounding and stabilizing stone. Petrified wood is said to have a positive effect on business and the world around us because it attracts harmony and organization.

 

Petrified wood and other fossils are traditionally used to do work with past life issues.

Smoky or Smokey Quartz, as the name suggests, is a member of the Quartz family with a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.  Smokey quartz’ clarity ranges from almost complete transparency to almost opaque and its colour can range from slightly beige to almost black.

 

Smokey Quartz is the national stone of Scotland and has been used in the Scot’s jewellery for centuries.

 

Smokey Quartz is known as the stone of power and for its energies that assist in centering & grounding. It is said that Smokey Quartz turns negativity into positivity and is used for protection. It is the perfect stone for meditation and Reiki.

TAURUS SUNSTONE - BALTIC AMBER

We continue with our focus on the birthstones of the Zodiac sun sign Taurus.  The birthstones or sunstones for Taurus include Amber, Coral, Emerald, Rose Quartz, Sapphire and Turquoise.  The planetary stones for Taurus are Aventurine and Emerald, and the Talisman is Garnet.

 

Today we highlight Amber which is a fossilized tree resin but it is used in jewellery as any other crystal, mineral or stone.

 

Metaphysically, Baltic Amber is also associated with desire, sensuality and romantic tenderness. Understandable why it would be a sunstone of Taurus.

 

It is said that Amber promotes creativity and confidence while easing stress. Its energies are said to promote patience, balance and understanding.

 

Physically when amber is worn against the skin, the nugget or bead is warmed and releases small amounts of healing oils (succinic acid). The oils are absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream and boost the immune system, reduce inflammation and are an analgesic used for pain. Baltic Amber also assists with varicose vein and increases blood circulation.

TAURUS - ROSE QUARTZ

Today we entered the Zodiac sun sign of Taurus. The sunstones for Taurus include Amber, Coral, Emerald, Rose Quartz, Sapphire and Turquoise. The planetary stones for Taurus are Aventurine and Emerald, and the Talisman is Garnet.

 

Taurus is ruled by Venus so we though we would highlight Rose Quartz today.

Rose quartz is said to be calming and perfect for crisis. Metaphysically it is used to assisting in learning to accept change and to deal with unexpressed emotions and grief.

HEMATITE

Hematite is an iron oxide with trace amounts of titanium. It is a myth that Hematite is magnetic. It is only magnetic if it contains enough magnetite or pyrrhotite. Hematite has a hardness of 5 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale.

 

Metaphysically, Hematite is used for grounding, enhances expansion and protection. It is associated with peace and harmony. Hematite is said to harmonizes the spirit, mind and body.

 

Hematite is used with addictions and is used during the stage to take inventory.

 

Physically, Hematite is used to stimulate memory, concentration and focus. It helps with blood flow. Hematite is beneficial for leg cramps.

CLEAR CRYSTAL QUARTZ POINT

Clear Crystal Quartz has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.  It is the most common mineral found on our planet and one of our most commissioned stones. These points are sculptured by nature, and no two points are ever the same. Take a close look at the crystal faces of your point. There are many different degrees and angles.

 

In general, crystal quartz are known as amplifiers which are said to expand the white energy of our higher self. It is said that Clear Quartz will assist us in achieving clarity in our communication abilities as well as our own personal thoughts.

OPAL APRIL BIRTHSTONE

The month of April has three birthstones – diamond, opal and sapphire. It also has sunstones associated with Aries and Taurus together with Talismans. We are currently in Aries and we highlighted some of Aries’ sunstones on March 22 and 24, 2022.

 

Today, we are highlighting Opal and our featured piece has been created from pink opal.  Pink Opal has a hardness of 6 on the Mohs Scale and is a blend of opal, palygorskite and chalcedony.

 

Pink Opal is known as a stone of hope, purity and health. It is said to be the healer of emotions and for faithful lovers. This stone is used to enhance our emotions as well as our spiritual self.  Pink Opal is sai to assist in keeping us centred and calm.
