SAPPHIRE – SAGITTARIUS SUN SIGN STONE

DECEMBER BLUE LACE AGATE (Capricorn Sun Stone)

We have been highlighting the birthstones of December.  The Zodiac signs also have stones associated with them.  The December Zodiac signs are Sagittarius and Capricorn, and some of the stones associates with these signs include agate, amethyst, beryl, garnet and sapphire.

DECEMBER BIRTHSTONE – Lapis Lazuli

We continue our look at December’s Birthstones which are blue topaz, chrysoprase, lapis lazuli, onyx, ruby, turquoise, tanzanite, and zircon.

December Birthstone - Onyx

BLACK KYANITE

Black Kyanite is typically a bladed crystal which has a hardness of 4.5 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale depending on if tested parallel or across the blade.  Black Kyanite is not to be confused with black tourmaline.  Black Kyanite is often found is a fan shape formation which assists in its identification for the layman.

 

Black Kyanite has a high vibration and as a result is a wonderful healing crystal used frequently by healers. 

 

Black Kyanite is said to be the perfect choice for work with clairvoyance (clear vision), meditation, attunements, past life, karma, manifesting work and the list goes on.  This is one for everyone’s toolbox.

FLUORITE

 

Fluorite has a hardness of 4 on the Mohs scale and is a form of calcium fluoride. Fluorite can range in colour from clear to black. Fluorite is naturally clear but impurities are what give the variance in colour. The most popular colour is purple and then green.

 

Fluorite is said to provide mental focus and to assist in the processing and retention of information. It has been called the aptitude stone. As such Fluorite is a perfect choice for students.

ELECTROPLATED DRUZY ON AGATE

Druzy is a collection of tiny crystals with a glittering effect.  The Druzy in our highlighted piece are on an Agate host and the beads have been electroplated to enhance their colours.

 

Druzy is considered to be a healing stone that purifies and amplifies the body's natural healing properties and strengthens the spirit. Druzy is said to help release blocked energies.

Coral - SCORPIO BIRTHSTONE

APACHE TEAR - SCORPIO BIRTHSTONE

On October 23, we entered the sign of Scorpio.  Apache tear, beryl, aquamarine, coral, obsidian and topaz are the stones that represent the Zodiac sign of Scorpio.  Today we are highlighting Apache Tear.

 

Apache Tear is a common name for round small black obsidian nodules which are made of volcanic glass. Apache tear has a hardness of 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale. These nodules are brittle and chip easily so it is important to be careful when storing them with other stones. As a side note, I actually prefer the chipped nuggets as this gives them dimension and more reflection; character if you will.

 

Apache Tear is said to be a good luck stone.

AMBER, CARNELIAN & QUARTZ

The main bead in this bracelet is Baltic Amber which is a fossilized tree resin with a hardness ranging from 2 to 2.5 on the Mohs scale.

 

When Amber is worn against the skin, the nugget or bead is naturally warmed by our body and a small amounts of healing oils (succinic acid) is released and absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream. BALTIC AMBER, CARNELIAN AND QUARTZ

The highlighted bracelet was created to adorn but also with joint pain in mind.

 

Baltic Amber when worn against the skin is warmed and releases small amounts of healing oils (succinic acid). The oils are absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream. The oils from Baltic Amber boost the immune system, reduce inflammation and are an analgesic used for pain.

 

Red Carnelian is known to be beneficial for arthritis and rheumatism. It is said to speeds up the healing of joints, bones and ligaments and rejuvenates tissues and cells.

 

Rutilated Quartz is the "moving energy" crystal. Rutile is known for its intense healing energy and quartz magnifies the energy of other stones. Rutilated quartz is said to be physically stabilizing. It fights aging and cellular deterioration and strengthens are tissues.

AGATE – SEPTEMBER BIRTHSTONE

As mentioned earlier this week, September has several birthstones including agate, moonstone, peridot, sapphire, sardonyx and zircon.  Today we are highlighting Agate, which is from the quartz family.  Agate has a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale and comes in a variety of colours and bands.   Our featured agate today is “Black Agate”.

 

Black Agate is a stone said to assist us in dealing with stress and to help us remain calm resulting in inner strength and emphasizes courage.  Black Agate could be called the worry stone.

 

As with most black stones and minerals, Black Agate is a grounding tool and is associated with our root chakra.

 

Black Agate is also associated with fertility and the reproductive organs. It is a perfect energy choice for pregnancy and menopause.

SEPTEMBER BIRTHSTONE, MOONSTONE

September has several birthstones including agate, moonstone, peridot, sapphire, sardonyx and zircon.  Today we are highlighting moonstone which is from the Feldspar family and has a hardness of 6 on the Mohs scale. Moonstone is also one of the birthstones of June.  There are varying types of Moonstone and today’s highlighted stone, Rainbow Moonstone, is the most sought-after variety.

 

Moonstone is associated with emotional energies and representative of the feminine energy.  Moonstone is known as the stone of intuition, mystery and did I say emotions. It is also known as the stone of Goddess energy. 

 

Rainbow Moonstone with its wonderful reflective qualities is said to direct light into our human and spiritual being.  This specific Moonstone is associated with harmony, creativity, balance and hope.

 

Moonstone is an ideal talisman for sensitive children.

 

It should be noted that children and women may need to remove Moonstone jewellery during the full moon. If you feel your emotions are exaggerated or you are highly sensitive, it is suggested that you remove any Moonstone jewellery until the full moon’s energy begins to wane.

 

Moonstone is associated with the third eye and crown chakras.

VIRGO BIRTHSTONE - JADE

As mentioned a couple of days ago, we entered the sun sign of Virgo on August 22, 2021.  Virgo’s sunstones or birthstones include Carnelian, Jade, Jasper, Moss Agate, and Blue Sapphire. Today, we are highlighting Jade.

 

Jade is Nephrite and/or Jadeite but there are many minerals that claim to be Jade which are not.  Jadeite has a hardness of 6.5 to 7 and Nephrite is slightly softer.  Jade though known of its many shades of green (which is caused by iron) can come is a variety of colours including green, white, orange, yellow, lavender, grey and black.

 

Jade is known as the dream stone and is said to bless everyone it touches. It is also said to offer peace through strength and a sense of calm.  It is known as the protection stone, a stone of good fortune and prosperity.

 

Jade is said to offer good luck and friendship.

 

Physically, it is used as a healing stone and a talisman for those who heal.

 

Jade is connected to the heart chakra.

Jasper, in ancient times, was worn by shamans and kings as it is said to be a powerful protection stone and helps to ground.

 

Jasper is known as the supreme nurturer and its energy is slow and continual. Jasper is said to draw strength and vitality and assists us in being loving and compassionate.

 

Jasper is said to enhance tranquility and helps us to eliminate stress.

ROSE QUARTZ

 Rose quartz as suggested by its name is a member of the Quartz family and has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.  The colour is usually muted but occasionally can be found as a vivid pink. Rose quartz is generally not treated.

 

Rose quartz is known as the stone of love - love for others AND love for self. It is said to be a crystal of high energy and unconditional love for any situation.

 

Rose quartz is used for self-esteem and self-worth. Its loving energies is said to teach us to apply this love to ourselves. This in turn assists us with our own self-worth.

Rose quartz is known as calming and perfect for crisis.  It is said to assist in learning how to accept change and deal with unexpressed emotions and grief.
