Welcome to December. December’s Birthstones include blue topaz, chrysoprase, lapis lazuli, onyx, ruby, turquoise, tanzanite, and zircon.
The Zodiac signs of Sagittarius and
Capricorn, the two signs that fall in the month of December, have sunstones
that include agate, amethyst, beryl, garnet and sapphire.
Today we highlight Onyx.
According to “Gem Select”, Onyx is black
and white banded agate (cryptocrystalline or chalcedony quartz). Niccolo onyx, which has a very thin upper
layer, allows the black base colour to show through as grey or blue. Onyx has a hardness of 6.5 to 7.
Blue Onyx has been used in rosaries for
centuries.
It is said to releases stress, anxiety,
worry and grief, and to carry a soothing and healing energy.
Metaphysically, Onyx is sed to clear
communication.
It is a sobriety stone especially when
coupled with amethyst.
Blue Onyx is associated with the throat
chakra.
