Citrine has a hardness of 7 and is from the quartz family.
The colour of citrine can vary from light yellow to a light orange-yellow. Most
citrine on the market is heated amethyst which may have been treated naturally
by Mother Nature or may have been treated by man. Heated Amethyst, sold as citrine, can range in
colour from dark yellow to a dark red-yellow. Smokey quartz can also be treated to turn
yellow. According to minerals.net, all heat-treated “citrine” has a red tint.
Some very light natural Citrine can be sold under the name of “Lemon Quartz”.
