TAURUS PLANETARY STONE – AVENTURINE

Staying with our focus on the sun sign Taurus, today we highlight Aventurine, the planetary stone of Taurus.  The birthstones or sunstones for Taurus include Amber, Coral, Emerald, Rose Quartz, Sapphire and Turquoise.  The Talisman is Garnet.

 

Aventurine is part of the Quartz / Chalcedony family containing small flakes or scales which can give it a glistening effect. The inclusions are usually Muscovite mica, but can be Hematite or Goethite. Aventurine has a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale.  Commonly, Aventurine comes in many varying shades of green but can also be found in the colours of orange, brown and grey.

 

Aventurine is associated with abundance, opportunity and luck.  It is said that Aventurine assists in emotional and mental healing. It has been used to calm tempers and also as a love stone.

 

Aventurine is associated with the heart chakra.

TAURUS’ BIRTHSTONE, CORAL

As mentioned in our last post, we have now entered the Zodiac sun sign of Taurus.  The birthstones or sunstones for Taurus include Amber, Coral, Emerald, Rose Quartz, Sapphire and Turquoise.  The planetary stones for Taurus are Aventurine and Emerald, and the Talisman is Garnet.

 

Our last post we focused on Rose Quartz and today we will highlight Coral.

 

Coral is a skeletal structure which is slowly built by small marine animals. Coral is between 3 and 4 in hardness on the Mohs scale. Natural coral is generally the colour of Carnelian but most coral used in jewellery has been dyed to enhance the colour. 

 

Coral is said to aid in meditation, visualization and creativity. As a result, it is a suggested crystal for artists. 

 

Coral is used to attract love, passion and prosperity and is said to help fine balance and harmony with nature.

 

Physically, Coral is used to assist with circulation and blood issues as well as regeneration.

 

Coral enhances all chakras.

TAURUS - ROSE QUARTZ

We have now entered the Zodiac sun sign of Taurus.  The birthstones or sunstones for Taurus include Amber, Coral, Emerald, Rose Quartz, Sapphire and Turquoise.  The planetary stones for Taurus are Aventurine and Emerald, and the Talisman is Garnet.

 

Taurus is ruled by Venus so we though we would highlight Rose Quartz today.

 

Rose quartz as suggested by its name is a member of the Quartz family and has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.  The colour is usually muted but occasionally can be found as a vivid pink. Rose quartz is generally not treated.

 

Rose quartz is known as the stone of love - love for others AND love for self. It is said to be the crystal of high energy and unconditional love for any situation. 

 

Rose quartz is used for self-esteem and self-worth. Its loving energies is used to teach us to apply this love to ourselves. This in turn assists us with our own self-worth.

Rose quartz said to be calming and perfect for crisis.  Metaphysically it is used to assisting in learning to accept change and to deal with unexpressed emotions and grief.

 

Rose quartz has been worn to benefit the female reproductions system and has been worn to assist fertility.

 

Rose quartz is associated with the heart chakra.

AMAZONITE

Amazonite is part of the feldspar family and has a hardness of 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale.

 

This is known as a soothing stone that balances the male and female energies. It is used to help us see both sides of all issues and its energies are said to assist us in being calm after emotional trauma.

 

It is known as the stone of courage and truth.

 

Keep Amazonite in or under your pillowcase to assist with clear dreams.

 

It is said to wear Amazonite after illness or surgery to aid with healing.

 

Amazonite heals the heart and throat chakras.

 

It should be noted to handle Amazonite with care as it easily chips or cracks.

BALTIC AMBER NECKLACE

 Baltic Amber is a fossilized tree resin that is used similar to any crystal, mineral or stone in jewellery creation.  Baltic Amber has a hardness ranging from 2 to 2.5 on the Mohs scale.

 

When amber is worn against the skin, the nugget or bead is naturally warmed by our body and the bead releases small amounts of healing oils (succinic acid) which are absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream.  Succinic acid is known to boost the immune system and reduce inflammation.  These oils are also used as an analgesic for pain. Baltic Amber is noted as assisting with varicose vein and increasing blood circulation.

 

Baltic Amber is well known for its healing energies and is used to assist teething toddlers.  Did you know that in ancient times, Baltic Amber was worn by children for their protection?

HEMATITE

Hematite is an iron oxide with trace amounts of titanium.  It is a myth that Hematite is magnetic on its own.  Hematite is only magnetic if it contains enough magnetite to attract it to a magnet.   

 

Hematite is thought to be grounding, enhances expansion and is protective. It is associated with peace and harmony. Hematite is used to harmonize the spirit, mind and body.

 

It is used to stimulated memory, concentration and focus. It is said to assist with addictions and is used during the inventory stage of the program.

 

Physically, Hematite is stated to help with blood supply and is beneficial for leg cramps and anxiety.

 

Hematite is associated with the root chakra.

APRIL BIRTHSTONE - PINK OPAL

 Today, we are highlighting Opal, the Mystical birthstone for April.  The traditional birthstones of April is Diamond and Sapphire.  There are many other birthstones associated with this month that are representative of Aries and Taurus including Jasper, Topaz, Bloodstone, Amber and many more.  

 

We will specifically focus on Pink Opal today which has a hardness of 6 and is a blend of opal, palygorskite and chalcedony.

 

Pink Opal is used as a stone of hope, purity and health. It is said to be the healer of emotions and is considered the stone for faithful lovers. This stone is said to enhance our emotions as well as our spiritual self.  Pink Opal is used metaphysically to assist in keeping us centred and calm. 

 

Used in meditation and with dreams, Pink Opal is used to help us arouse compassion and to release painful memories.

 

It has even been referred to as the stone of the Gods.

SAPPHIRE – April Birthstone

Diamond, Opal and Sapphire are the traditional birthstone of April.  There are many other birthstones associated with this month that are representative of Aries and Taurus including Jasper, Topaz, Bloodstone, Amber and many more.  Sapphire is the Sunstone of Taurus.  It is also the birthstone of September.

 

We are focusing on the gemstone Sapphire today which is a variety of the mineral corundum and aluminum oxide.  It has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale. 

 

Sapphire is known as the stone of wisdom and is said to brings peace of mind.  This is the stone of prophecy.

 

Sapphire is used metaphysically to align the physical, mental and spiritual.

 

The blue sapphire shown here is associated with love and purity and is said to help us to stay on our spiritual path.

 

Sapphire is used to calm and regulate the body. It is said to treat disorders associates with the blood and strengthens veins.

 

Sapphire is primarily associated with the third chakra but is also associated with the throat chakra.

AQUAMARINE - ARIES

 In keeping with our Aries focus, we are highlighting Aquamarine today.  The many stones associated with Aries include (but not limited to) Amethyst, Anyolite, Aquamarine, Aventurine, Axinite, Bloodstone, Citrine, Diamond, Emerald, Fire Agate, Magnesite, Magnetite, Stilbite to name some of the more common ones

 

Aquamarine is from the Beryl family.  Aquamarine comes by its lovely greeny or sea blue colour from iron impurities in the colourless, glassy beryl crystal. It has a hardness of 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale.  Aquamarine is also one of the sunstones of Pisces, Gemini and the birthstone for the month of March.

 

Aquamarine is said to help us calmly speak our truth and to have courage. The keyword for Aquamarine is courage.  It is used to bring us hope and helps us to experience peace. 

 

Aquamarine is also used to help us move forward with positive changes in life by releasing events of the past.

 

Aquamarine is associated with the Throat Chakra.
