Dumortierite is a member of the quartz family and has a hardness between 7 and 8.5 on the Mohs scale. It can resemble Lapis Lazuli or azurite in colour.

Dumortierite is known as the stone of patience.  It assists in finding solutions to any hurdles we are facing.

CLEAR QUARTZ, TOURMALINATED QUARTZ AND SHUNGITE

Clear Crystal quartz is a 7 in hardness on the Mohs scale and is the most common stone found on our planet.  Tourmalinated Quartz is also a 7 and is Clear Quartz containing Tourmaline impurities.  Shungite has a hardness of 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale of hardness and is believed to be approximately 2 billion years old.

Tourmalated or Tourmalinated Quartz has the properties of both quartz and tourmaline. It is a grounding stone and it assists with the release of tension on all levels. This stone helps us to deal with negative thoughts and helps us to turn our negativity into positivity. It contains wonderful energy for problem solving.

Shungite is a protective stone and helps to alleviate negativity. Shungite assists with calming and relaxing. It is a necessity when dealing with electronics on a regular basis as it is a shielding stone.

We cannot stress enough the importance of taking care of ourselves particularly during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.  We are again featuring Rose Quartz, the stone of self-love.

Rose quartz is actually the stone of love - love for others AND yes, love for self. It is a crystal of high energy and unconditional love for any situation.

Copper is well recognized for its healing properties especially with fighting infections. Copper is an antioxidant, improves the production of hemoglobin, myelin, collagen, melanin and the list goes on. 

Spiritually, Copper is the metal of the body and silver is the metal of the spirit. Here the body and spirit blend together. 

Metaphysically, copper is used for grounding. Since ancient time, Copper has been used in talismans because of its protective qualities.

PYRITE

Pyrite is made of iron sulfide and can also contain small amounts of cobalt, nickel, silver, and gold. Pyrite has hardness of 6 to 6.5.  Pyrite’s metallic luster has given rise to its nickname “Fools Gold”.  However, Pyrite is often found in gold deposits.

Pyrite is a stone of protection and has been used as a talisman for protection and well being.  It is associated with self-esteem, confidence and willpower.

Pyrite inspires creativity in many areas including the arts and areas of study that require perfection. Pyrite stimulates commitment, ambition and perseverance. This is an ideal stone for students but also for the student’s Mother.

Physically, Pyrite is used to help with viral infections, including colds and flu.

Pyrite is associated with the solar plexus chakra (3^rd).

BALTIC AMBER - HEALING

With disease and healing as my focus today, I am going to take a look at how we can deal with the initial discomfort.  With that in mind, I think of Baltic Amber.

Baltic Amber is a fossilized tree resin that is used similarly to any other crystal, mineral or stone in jewellery creation.  Its hardness ranges from 2 to 2.5. 

When amber is worn against the skin, the nugget or bead is naturally warmed by our body heat and the bead releases small amounts of healing oils (succinic acid). The oils are absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream and boost the immune system, reduce inflammation and are an analgesic used for pain. Baltic Amber also assists with varicose vein and increases blood circulation.

Baltic Amber is well known for its healing energies and has been worn by children for their protection since ancient times. Baltic Amber is also ideal for teething toddlers.

SAGITTARIUS SUNSTONE/BIRTHSTONE SAPPHIRE

As mentioned yesterday, the Zodiac sign Sagittarius has several different stones, including ruby, topaz, amethyst, sapphire, and turquoise.   In the past couple of days we have highlighted Beryl, the talisman for Sagittarius and the precious gemstone Ruby. 

Today we will highlight the precious gemstone Sapphire.  It should be noted that Sapphire is the traditional birthstone of September.  Sapphire is a variety of the minerals corundum and aluminum oxide.  It has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale. Sapphire is most commonly blue but can also be yellow, purple, orange, and green.  A red Sapphire is called Ruby.   

Sapphire is known as the stone of wisdom and brings peace of mind.  It is the stone of prophecy.

Sapphire aligns the physical, the mental and the spiritual.

The blue sapphire shown here is associated with love and purity and helps us to stay on our spiritual path.

Sapphire calms and regulates the body.

Sapphire is primarily associated with the third chakra but is also associated with the throat chakra.

SAPPHIRE TREE OF LIFE

SAGITTARIUS BIRTH OR SUNSTONE - RUBY

The Zodiac sign Sagittarius has five different stones,  ruby, topaz, amethyst, sapphire, and turquoise.   Yesterday, the highlighted Beryl, the talisman for Sagittarius.  Today, we will highlight the precious gemstone Ruby. 

Ruby is the red variety of the mineral Corundum and Sapphire is the blue variety.  Essentially, Ruby is a red Sapphire and it has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale.

Ruby is also the birthstone of July and one of the sunstone of Cancer as well. 

It is rare to find ruby on its own in metaphysically jewellery pieces.  Frequently it is found in Zoisite (a green stone) which is called Anyolite. 

Ruby is a very powerful stone.   It is said to help us shake off limitations and promotes joy, courage and strength.  It promotes enthusiasm and enthusiasm in turn helps us to truly live life.  This stone is suggested during times of exhaustion. 

Over the centuries, Ruby has been used as a shield against negative energies.

Ruby is said to promote love and amplifies energy.  It is a talisman for sex and love.

It stimulates the base or root chakra.

RUBY TREE OF LIFE

SAGITTARIUS TALISMAN - BERYL (Aquamarine)

Beryl is listed as the talisman stone for the current sun sign - Sagittarius. 

Beryl is a relatively rare silicate mineral with a hardness of 7.5 to 8.  Beryl comes in a variety of colours and you may know it more commonly by the gemstones of Aquamarine (blue/green), Emerald (green), Morganite (pink), Golden Beryl (Yellow), Heliodor (yellow), Goshenite (clear) and Red Beryl (red).

Today we will focus on the greeny or sea blue coloured Aquamarine which gets its colour from iron impurities.

AMETHYST FOR SCORPIO

Amethyst is from the quartz family and has a hardness of 7.  This particular pendant showcases a natural Amethyst point.

Amethyst is one of the most popular of the healing stones and is considered the master healer.

Amethyst is a stone associated with sincerity, protection and purification.  It is also a calming stone.

Amethyst's energies are also associated with the psychic realm.
