FLUORITE (For Students)

With school only a long weekend away, we thought we would focus on a stone that was appropriate for students.  What is the stone of the mind, the stone of aptitude?  Fluorite is a great choice.

Fluorite has a hardness of 4 and is a form of calcium fluoride.  This mineral can range in colour from clear to black.  Fluorite is naturally clear but impurities are what give Fluorite its range in colour.  The most popular colours in jewellery are purple and then green.

Fluorite is said to provide mental focus, assist in the processing of information and the retention of it too.  It has been called the aptitude stone. 

With the students of life in mind, Fluorite is also a highly protective stone used for grounding and balancing spiritually. Fluorite increases intuitive abilities and links us to the universal conscious energies when working with our upper Chakras.  

Physically, Fluorite is known to strengthen bones and teeth, and lessens pain associated with arthritis.

FLUORITE FOR STUDENTS

MALACHITE AND COPPER

It is the last day of August and life is about to change and get more structured again.  Deadlines and schedules are being presented.  We have decided to feature Malachite today for that reason.

Malachite is a copper carbonate stone with a hardness of 3.5 to 4.  Malachite actually reacts to other metals and can cause plated metals to discolour quickly.  Copper is the perfect partner for Malachite in jewellery.

Malachite is a high energy, protection stone which balances our emotions.  It reduces stress and tension while increasing hope and happiness.  Perfect for the times of change.

Malachite will unmercifully show us our blockages. It will draw up buried feelings and help us take responsibility for our actions.

Malachite is a wonderful healing stone. It is used for feminine issues and childbirth. It also enhances our immune system. 

It absorbs pollutants from the air and from the body.

It should be cleansed after each use. Sun and quartz are perfect cleansers. Do not use salt as this will damage the stone.  ONLY wear polished Malachite as the dust can be toxic if the stone is raw as well as if it is chipped.

There are more than one wind of change upon us.  Silver and silver tones are losing their dominance in the fashion world. The more warm coloured metals have made a comeback. (Copper, however, has always been a favorite in the metaphysical world due to its conductivity.)

Copper is well recognized for its healing properties especially with fighting infections. Copper is an antioxidant, improves the production of hemoglobin, myelin, collagen, melanin and the list goes on.

As mentioned, Copper is an excellent conductor of energy and therefore acts as a conduit for the energies of the stones it surrounds giving the energies an extra boost.

MALACHITE IN COPPER

HEMATITE & LAVA STONE

Lava or Basalt is Volcanic rock and has a hardness of 3 to 3.5.

Hematite (the four more reflective beads) is an iron oxide with trace amounts of titanium.  It is a myth that Hematite is magnetic.  Hematite is only magnetic if it contains enough magnetite or pyrrhotite.  Hematite has a hardness of 5 to 6.5

Lava stone acts as a wick and essential oils can be added to this bracelet for added benefits. Just as with stone energy, essential oils have wonderful effects on your body, mind and emotions. You can add a different essential oil each day depending on your needs and likes. 

Lava stone’s energy is known to bring strength and courage to those that wear it. It is said that the energies of Lava help to curb our anger. Like most black stones, it is grounding and offers protection. Lava is also a high energy stone and is associates with fertility and is considered to help raise libito.

LAPIS LAZULI

Lapis Lazuli is comprised of lazurite (25% to 40%), calcite and pyrite. It has a hardness of 5 to 5.5.

Lapis Lazuli was the favoured stone of the pharaohs.  It has always been associated with royalty and divine beings. Lapis Lazuli is believed to pass on the ancient knowledge and wisdom of Isis, the Egyptian Sky Goddess.

Lapis Lazuli is the stone of truth. It promotes inner truth, self-awareness, harmony and is an excellent choice to assist in releasing stress and in finding peace.

Lapis Lazuli is associated with good judgement and wisdom including inner wisdom.

Its energies are said to stimulate promotion and success.

Lapis Lazuli is used for ailments of the throat and ears and is said to help with general pain and inflammation.

This stone is associated with the throat chakra as well as the third eye chakra.

Today we are featuring Jasper.

Jasper, in general, is known as the nurturer.

Just before midnight tonight, we will enter the sun sign of Virgo.  Virgo’s sunstones include carnelian, jade, jasper, moss agate, and blue sapphire. (Carnelian, for interest sake, is the alternative birthstone of Ruby for July.)

Today we are featuring Carnelian which is chalcedony quartz and has a hardness of 6.5 to 7.

In ancient times, Carnelian was used as an amulet or talisman. Carnelian is a high energy grounding and stabilizing stone. 

Carnelian is the stone of choice to help remove fear and create courage. It is used for concentration and to calms anger.

Carnelian is also associated with creativity and stimulates energy and drive thus it is a motivational stone.

In healing, it is said to influence the female reproductive organs and is said to be beneficial for depression.

AMAZONITE

Amazonite has a hardness of 6 to 6.5 and is part of the feldspar mineral group.  Contrary to its name, Amazonite cannot be found in the Amazon River after which it was named but can be found in other parts of Brazil.

Amazonite is a soothing stone that balances the male and female energies. It helps us to see both sides of all issues and soothes emotional trauma. 

It is known as the stone of courage and truth.

Amazonite is known to heal the heart and throat chakras.

AMAZONITE TASSEL PENDANT

KYANITE, LAPIS LAZULI AND A TOUCH OF LABRADORITE

Kyanite has a hardness of 3.5 to 7 depending on whether it is cut on its long axis or not. It is normally blue in colour but can also be green, grey or white.  Kyanite’s colour is generally blotchy and streaked.

Lapis Lazuli is comprised of lazurite (25% to 40%), calcite and pyrite. It has a hardness of 5 to 5.5.

As they name suggests, Labradorite was discovered in Labrador, Canada and has a hardness of 6 to 6.5. This stone has a wonderful metallic reflective quality when light hits it specific ways and is known for its lovely flashes of colour.

The key word for Kyanite could be “Balancing”.  Its energies are known to invoke fairness and loyalty. As a result, it is a great choice for repairing relationships, contract negotiations, etc.   Kyanite is a perfect stone of choice for counselors, mediators and arbitrators.   Kyanite is known to assist in speaking our truth. Carry Kyanite if you are going to be doing any type of public speaking or presentations.  Kyanite is a tool used for dream recall, vivid dreaming and channeling.

Pyrite inspires creativity in many areas including the arts and areas of study that require perfection. Pyrite stimulates commitment, ambition and perseverance. This is an ideal stone for students but also for the student’s Mother.

Aventurine is part of the Quartz / Chalcedony family containing small flakes or scales which can give it a glistening effect. The inclusions are usually Muscovite mica, but can be Hematite or Goethite. Howlite is a cauliflower shaped stone with a hardness of 3.5 and is seldom found in crystal form. Frequently Howlite is dyed and sold as turquoise. In its natural form, Howlite is white with grey to black veins.

Howlite is known to still the mind, relieves stress, and is calming. As a result, it is excellent for sleep. Howlite encourages patience. 

This is an attunement stone & is linked to the spiritual dimensions. It opens us to insights & wisdom and is a perfect tool for meditation.

An Agate Geode looks much like a potato from the outside. Inside the Geode holds a beautiful surprise. Simply put, water containing minerals gathers and through pressure and other processes, the minerals and water harden over time to create this beautiful piece of shimmering art. Agate Geode’s hardness is between 6.5 and 7.

Pure Jade is Nephrite and/or Jadeite but there are many minerals that claim to be Jade which are not.  Jadeite has a hardness of 6.5 to 7 and Nephrite is slightly softer.  Jade though known of its many shades of green (which is caused by iron) can come is a variety of colours including green, white, orange, yellow, lavender, grey and black.

Jade is known as the dream stone and is said to bless everyone it touches. It offers peace through strength.  It is also known as the protection stone. 

Jade is said to offer good luck and friendship.

JADE

TRANSFORMING JEWELLERY

A new client provided me with the earrings in the first picture which were purchase from a store as she had been hunting for white earrings for the summer.  However, after trying to wear them, she was uncomfortable because they were far too long for her liking.   

I was asked to make a pair of earrings from the beads which were much shorter and in line with her style. 

I was able to create not one but two pair of much shorter earrings and there were sufficient beads to create a matching bracelet.

August Birthstone - PERIDOT

Welcome to August.  In honour of August we are featuring Peridot, its primary birthstone.  Peridot is also a sunstone for Leo (and other signs for that matter).

Peridot is a manifesting stone.  It is said that Peridot assists us with clearing guilt and obsessions and to release ourselves from outside influences. It enhances confidence and clarity.

Physically it is said to assist healing and regenerate tissue including the skin. It is suggested that it is beneficial for aiding many of our organs including the heart and lungs.

Peridot is associated with the heart chakra.
