AMETHYST

 Amethyst is the purple variety from the quartz family and can range from light to dark purple and from clear to a solid colour.  The clear gem grade Amethyst is the most sought-after version of this mineral.  Amethyst, as with all quartz, has a hardness of 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale. 

 

Amethyst is one of the most popular of the healing stones and is considered the master healer.

 

Amethyst is a stone associated with sincerity, protection and purification.  

 

Amethyst's energies are also associated with the psychic realm.

 

Amethyst comes from the Greek word methustos which can be translated as intoxicated. This stone has been used for centuries in association with sobriety and is also used for other addictions.  It is said that Amethyst assists with the elimination of cravings.

 

In healing, Amethyst is not only used on those being healed but also is worn by the healer as it is believed that its energies heal the healer.

 

Physically, Amethyst is said to assist with headaches as well as assists and stimulates the immune system.

 

Amethyst is the sunstone for the Astrological sign of Pisces and traditionally is the birthstone for the month of February.

SAPPHIRE – SAGITTARIUS SUN SIGN STONE

The Zodiac signs also have stones associated with them.  The December Zodiac signs are Sagittarius and Capricorn, and some of the stones associates with these signs include agate, amethyst, beryl, garnet and sapphire.

The blue sapphire shown here is associated with love and purity and is said to help us stay on our spiritual path.

 

Sapphire is used to calm and regulate the body.

DECEMBER BLUE LACE AGATE (Capricorn Sun Stone)

We have been highlighting the birthstones of December.  The Zodiac signs also have stones associated with them.  The December Zodiac signs are Sagittarius and Capricorn, and some of the stones associates with these signs include agate, amethyst, beryl, garnet and sapphire.

 

Today we are highlighting Agate, (Capricorn sun sign stone) which in general, is between a 6.5 to a 7 in hardness on the MOHS scale.

 

Are featured bead is Blue Lace Agate (also known as Blue Chalcedony) which is known as a stone of communication and is said to help you speak your truth and with public speaking.

 

Blue Lace Agate’s energies are said to be soothing, calming and centering. This stone is used to helps with confidence. Blue Lace is known as a harmony stone and its energies are associated with happiness.

 

In the past, this specific agate was used as a protection stone for children.

DECEMBER BIRTHSTONE – Lapis Lazuli

We continue our look at December’s Birthstones which are blue topaz, chrysoprase, lapis lazuli, onyx, ruby, turquoise, tanzanite, and zircon.

 

The Zodiac signs of Sagittarius and Capricorn, the two signs that fall in the month of December include agate, amethyst, beryl, garnet and sapphire.

 

Today we are highlighting beautiful Lapis Lazuli which is comprised of lazurite (25% to 40%), calcite and pyrite.  Lapis Lazuli has a hardness of 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale.

 

Lapis Lazuli is known as the stone of truth. It is used metaphysically to promote inner truth, self-awareness and speaking your truth.

 

It is associated with wisdom and good judgement.

 

Lapis' energies is said to stimulate promotion and success.

 

This stone is associated with the throat chakra as well as the third eye chakra.

December Birthstone - Onyx

 Welcome to December. December’s Birthstones include blue topaz, chrysoprase, lapis lazuli, onyx, ruby, turquoise, tanzanite, and zircon.

According to “Gem Select”, Onyx is black and white banded agate (cryptocrystalline or chalcedony quartz).  Niccolo onyx, which has a very thin upper layer, allows the black base colour to show through as grey or blue.  Onyx has a hardness of 6.5 to 7.

 

Blue Onyx has been used in rosaries for centuries.

 

It is said to releases stress, anxiety, worry and grief, and to carry a soothing and healing energy.

 

Metaphysically, Onyx is sed to clear communication.

 

It is a sobriety stone especially when coupled with amethyst.

BLACK KYANITE

Black Kyanite is typically a bladed crystal which has a hardness of 4.5 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale depending on if tested parallel or across the blade.  Black Kyanite is not to be confused with black tourmaline.  Black Kyanite is often found is a fan shape formation which assists in its identification for the layman.

 

Black Kyanite has a high vibration and as a result is a wonderful healing crystal used frequently by healers. 

 

Black Kyanite is said to be the perfect choice for work with clairvoyance (clear vision), meditation, attunements, past life, karma, manifesting work and the list goes on.  This is one for everyone’s toolbox.

 

Black Kyanite is used as a grounding and protecting stone as with most black minerals.  Just as with sage, Black Kyanite can be used for clearing.  Because of its strong clearing energies, it is not necessary to cleanse Kyanite.

 

Kyanite works with all chakras and is suggested for use with clearing the chakras.  It is particularly associated with the root chakra.

FLUORITE

 

Fluorite has a hardness of 4 on the Mohs scale and is a form of calcium fluoride. Fluorite can range in colour from clear to black. Fluorite is naturally clear but impurities are what give the variance in colour. The most popular colour is purple and then green.

 

Fluorite is said to provide mental focus and to assist in the processing and retention of information. It has been called the aptitude stone. As such Fluorite is a perfect choice for students.

 

Spiritually, Fluorite is used for protection, grounding and balancing. It is also used to increase intuitive abilities and to link us to the universal conscious energies when working with our upper Chakras.

BLUE SANDSTONE

Blue Sandstone (a manmade stone) is dark blue, almost purple, with glimmering flecks (copper) throughout.

ELECTROPLATED DRUZY ON AGATE

Druzy is a collection of tiny crystals with a glittering effect.  The Druzy in our highlighted piece are on an Agate host and the beads have been electroplated to enhance their colours.

 

Druzy is considered to be a healing stone that purifies and amplifies the body's natural healing properties and strengthens the spirit. Druzy is said to help release blocked energies.

 

Druzy’s energies work similar to crystal clusters and therefore are excellent when working in group settings for metaphysical development, meditation groups, support groups, etc.  Druzy is used to bring the group energies together.
