As mentioned last week, Birthstones for the month of July include carnelian, onyx, ruby, sapphire and sardonyx. Today we are highlighting the ancient birthstone Carnelian (which is also one of the ancient birthstones for May and birthstone of Virgo). Carnelian is chalcedony quartz and has a hardness of 6.5 to a 7 on the Mohs scale.
Carnelian is known as a grounding and
stabilizing stone. It has high energy which
makes it a motivational stone.
In ancient times, Carnelian was not only a
birthstone but was considered an amulet or talisman. Carnelian is used to help
remove fear and to create courage. It is
used for concentration and to calm anger.
Carnelian is also associated with
creativity and stimulates energy and drive.
In healing it is said to influence the
female reproductive organs and is beneficial for depression.
Carnelian is associated with the second or
sacral chakra.
