LIBRA BIRTHSTONE - OPAL

We continue our focus on Libra birthstones which are Lapis Lazuli, Opal and Peridot (also known as the sunstones of the sun sign Libra).  Agate is known as the Talisman for Libra and Sapphire is the planetary stone.  Opal is also the birthstones of October.

 

Today we are showcasing pink opal.

 

Pink Opal has a hardness of 6 on the Mohs Scale and is a blend of opal, palygorskite and chalcedony.

 

Pink Opal is known as a stone of hope, purity and health. It is the healer of emotions and is the stone for faithful lovers. It is said that this stone enhances our emotions as well as our spiritual self.  Pink Opal is used to keep us centred and calm. 

 

Used in meditation and with dreams, Pink Opal is used to arouse compassion and allow us to release painful memories.

 

It has even been referred to as the stone of the Gods. 

 

Pink Opal is associated with the heart chakra.

LIBRA BIRTHSTONE, AGATE

As mentioned earlier in the week, Lapis Lazuli, Opal and Peridot are the birthstones or sunstones of the sun sign Libra.  Agate is known as the Talisman for Libra and Sapphire is the planetary stone.

 

Today we are featuring Libra’s talisman, Agate.  Yesterday we highlighted Emerald, the traditional birthstone for the month of May.  Agate is also the traditional birthstone for the month of May. 

 

There are numerous types of agate, too numerous to list here.  We have decided to focus on Montana Agate which is also known as Moss Agate today.

 

Montana Agate is usually creamy light yellow to almost a blue clear colour which can appear almost waxy. Within the agate will be manganese oxide which creates the moss like colours ranging from browns to reds but mostly blacks.  Montana Agate has a hardness of 7.

 

Montana Agate is a balancing stone used to connect to Mother Earth and is said to assists with balancing our emotions. It helps us to feel balanced within ourselves.

 

Montana Agate is a powerful healer.

 

Montana Agate is used to promote good fortune. It is a stone of choice with Artists to promote with creation and inspiration.

 

Montana Agate assists in opening and cleansing all chakras.

LIBRA BIRTHSTONE - LAPIS LAZULI

 Lapis Lazuli, Opal and Peridot are the birthstones or sunstones of the sun sign Libra.  Agate is known as the Talisman for Libra and Sapphire is the planetary stone.

 

Today we are highlighting Lapis Lazuli which is comprised of lazurite (25% to 40%), calcite and pyrite. It has a hardness of 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale.

 

Lapis Lazuli was the favoured stone of the pharaohs.  It has always been associated with royalty and divine beings. Lapis Lazuli is believed to pass on the ancient knowledge and wisdom of Isis, the Egyptian Sky Goddess.

 

Lapis Lazuli is known as the stone of truth and is said to promotes inner truth, self-awareness, and harmony.  It is believed to be an excellent choice to assist in releasing stress and in finding peace.

 

Lapis Lazuli is associated with good judgement and wisdom.  Its energies are said to stimulate promotion and success.

 

Lapis Lazuli is used for ailments of the throat and ears and is said to help with general pain and inflammation.

 

This stone is associated with the throat chakra as well as the third eye chakra.

HEMATITE

Hematite is an iron oxide with trace amounts of titanium.  It is a myth that Hematite is magnetic on its own.  Hematite is only magnetic if it contains enough magnetite to attract it to a magnet.   Hematite has a hardness of 5.5 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale.

 

Hematite is used for grounding, enhancing expansion and protection. It is associated with peace and harmony, and used to harmonizes the spirit, mind and body.

 

It is said to stimulate memory, concentration and focus. It is used to assist with addictions and is used during the inventory stage of the program.

 

Physically, Hematite is said to help with blood supply and is beneficial for leg cramps and anxiety.

 

Hematite is associated with the root chakra.

BLACK AGATE IN THE SHADOW OF THE MOON

Agate has a hardness of 6.5 to 7 and comes in a variety of colours and bands. 

 

Black Agate is a stone said to assist us in dealing with stress and helps us to remain calm. This provides inner strength and emphasizes courage.

 

As with most black stones and minerals, Black Agate is a grounding tool and is associated with our root chakra.

 

Black Agate is associated with fertility and the reproductive organs which makes it a perfect choice for pregnancy and menopause. 

 

The moon which represents our emotions is a perfect charm to accompany the black agate all placed on the circular pendant representing emotional cycles.

 

The Lunar charm could be replaced with another charm such as a fertility goddess for example to focus on the fertility energies.  The choices are endless.

VIRGO BIRTHSTONE - CARNELIAN

 The Zodiac sign of Virgo has five birthstones, moss agate, carnelian, jade, jasper, sapphire.  The Talisman for Virgo is zircon and the planetary stone is citrine.

 

Today we are highlighting Carnelian which is a chalcedony quartz and has a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the mohs scale.

 

In ancient times, Carnelian was used as an amulet or talisman. Carnelian is known as a high energy grounding and stabilizing stone. 

 

Carnelian is the stone of choice for metaphysical healers to help remove fear and create courage. It is used for concentration and to calms anger.

 

Carnelian is also associated with creativity and is said to stimulate energy and drive thus it is used as a motivational stone.

 

In healing, it is said to influence the female reproductive organs and is said to be beneficial for depression.

 

Carnelian is not only the Sunstone or birthstone of Virgo but is also the alternative birthstone for July.

VIRGO - JASPER PENDANT

  

The Zodiac sign of Virgo has five birthstones, moss agate, carnelian, jade, jasper, sapphire.  The Talisman for Virgo is zircon and the planetary stone is citrine.

 

Today we are highlighting Jasper.

 

Jasper is from the quartz family and its hardness is between 6.5 and 7 on the mohs scale. 

 

Jasper, in ancient times, was worn by shamans and kings for its powerful protection and grounding qualities.

 

Jasper is known as the supreme nurturer and its energy is slow and continual.  This piece is said to draw strength and vitality and assists us in being loving and compassionate. 

 

Jasper is said to enhance tranquility and helps us to eliminate stress.  Red (sometimes called Brown) Jasper has been used to assist when quitting smoking or other addictions as it is said to strengthen the emotional body.

SAPPHIRE - September

September has several birthstones including agate (highlighted earlier this week), moonstone, peridot, sapphire, sardonyx and zircon.  Today we are highlighting Sapphire.  Sapphire is also the traditional birthstone of April and the Sunstone of Taurus. 

 

Sapphire is a variety of the mineral corundum and aluminum oxide.  It has a hardness of 9 on the mohs scale. 

 

Sapphire is known as the stone of wisdom and brings peace of mind.  This is the stone of prophecy.

 

Sapphire is used to aligns the physical, mental and spiritual.

 

The blue sapphire shown here is associated with love and purity and helps us to stay on our spiritual path.

 

Sapphire is said to calm and regulate the body and in metaphysical healing is used to treat disorders associates with the blood and strengthens veins.

 

Sapphire is primarily associated with the third chakra but is also associated with the throat chakra.

September birthstone – AGATE

Welcome to September!

 

September has several birthstones including agate, moonstone, peridot, sapphire, sardonyx and zircon.  Today we are highlighting Agate.  A side note, Agate is also the sunstone/birthstone of Gemini.

 

Agate is a banded stone which makes it stand out from any other Chalcedony. It has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.  There are so many different types of Agate we could not begin to list them all.  Today’s highlighted Tree of Life, blends a couple varieties of Agate.

 

Agate is a slow and lower vibrational stone.  Sure but steady, its energetic effects will take time to manifest but will have wonderful long term benefits.

 

It is said that Agate balances, strengthens, soothes and calms which in turn helps us to heal emotionally.  It is known as a protective and harmonizing stone which relieves anxiety and stress.  Agate’s energy is also said to strengthen the body as well as to helps us with our connection to the earth (grounding). 

 

Emotionally, agate is used to help with courage, self-confidence, and to dispels fears.

 

It is promoted for use for creativity and as a result, is suggested for use by students and artists.

 

All agates can remove blockages from all chakras and are cleansing.
