ARIES - APACHE TEARS

In honour of the sun sign of Aries, we thought we would highlight Apache Tears, one of the sunstones associated with Aries. The many stones associated with Aries include (but not limited to) Amethyst, Anyolite, Aquamarine, Aventurine, Axinite, Bloodstone, Citrine, Diamond, Emerald, Fire Agate, Magnesite,  Magnetite, Stilbite to name a few.

Apache Tears is a common name for round small black obsidian nodules which are made of volcanic glass. Apache tears are 5 to 5.5 in hardness on the Mohs scale. These stones are brittle and chip easily, so it is important to be careful when storing them with other stones. As a side note, I actually prefer the chipped nuggets as this give them dimension and more reflection….character if you will.

Apache tears are good luck stones.  They are grounding and are known to give protection.  Just as with any black obsidian, Apache tears are said to protect us from negativity in our surroundings and from within (such as negative thoughts and reactions).  Because of its positive effects on negative situations, Apache tears are used to relieve grief and sadness.

This stone is used by those that give support during stressful situations.

Physically, Apache Tears have been used for muscle spasms and to boost the immune system.

Apache Tears are associated with the root chakra.

BALTIC AMBER ANKLET

The demand for Baltic Amber is quite high right now and today we are again highlighting Baltic Amber.  Baltic Amber is a fossilized tree resin that is used in jewellery just as any other crystal, mineral or stone.   It has a hardness of 2 to 2.5 on the Mohs scale.

When amber is worn against the skin, the nugget or bead is warmed and releases small amounts of healing oils (succinic acid). The oils are absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream and boost the immune system, reduce inflammation and are an analgesic used for pain. Baltic Amber is said to assists with varicose veins and increases blood circulation.   Today’s anklet has been created specifically for varicose veins (and for its good looks too). 

Baltic Amber is well known for its healing energies and analgesic benefits and has been worn by children for their protection since ancient times.

Amber Jewellery for babies is quite popular particularly during teething. These Jewellery pieces are meant to be worn against the skin and are not for chewing.  Each bead is individually tied for safety reasons.

TOURMALINE

Tourmaline is a semi-precious gemstone with a hardness of 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale.  Tourmaline is a combination of several minerals, the most common or which are Elbaite, Schorl, and Dravite.  Tourmaline comes in a very wide variety of colours.  Today’s showcased piece is Black Tourmaline adorning upcycled cutlery.

Tourmaline is a healing crystal that is associated with moving beyond old habits which in turn make change a little easier. 

Tourmaline is a powerful grounding stone and enhances tolerance and understanding.  This is the stone of choice when a positive attitude is essential.

In ancient times, it was used to ward off evil spirits. Today it is still used as a shamanic stone for protection and purification.

Black Tourmaline is great to wear at work for clarify and energy and would benefit those with stressful jobs to release anxiety and even anger.

Tourmaline is said to reduce toxins that cause chronic diseases.  Tourmaline is said to cause a cleaning of the nervous system which again, as mentioned earlier, helps to create less stress, alertness as well as greater circulation.  It is important to remember that all healing starts on a spiritual level.

CITRINE - ARIES

 We are now in the sign of Aries. 

There are many stones associated with Aries include (but not limited to) Amethyst, Anyolite, Aquamarine, Aventurine, Axinite, Bloodstone, Citrine, Diamond, Emerald, Fire Agate, Magnesite, Magnetite, Stilbite to name some of the more common ones.

Today we are highlighting Citrine.  Citrine has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale and is from the quartz family. The colour of citrine can vary from light yellow to a light orange-yellow. Most citrine on the market are heated amethyst which may have been treated naturally by Mother Nature or may have been treated by humans.  Heated Amethyst, sold as citrine, can range in colour from dark yellow to a dark red-yellow.  Smokey quartz can also be treated to turn yellow. According to minerals.net, all heat-treated “citrine” has a red tint.

Some very light natural Citrine can be sold under the name of “Lemon Quartz”. 

True Citrine’s energies are associated with abundance and it is known as the success stone.  It is also associated with happiness. 

Citrine is said to increases and clarifies personal power and energy.

Citrine is used to removing toxins and is said to be helpful with overcoming addictions.

It should be noted that Citrine may intensify aggressiveness in some individuals.

Citrine is connected to the Solar Plexus chakra.

“BELIEVE”

“Believe”……… Today we are highlighting this lovely hammered spoon bowl adorned with angel wings.

What do you believe?

SNOW QUARTZ (Milky Quartz or White Quartz)

Snow quartz, also known as White Quartz and Milky Quartz, has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.  It gets its milky opaque colour from microscopic inclusions in the quartz.

Snow quartz is considered a feminine stone and is known for its purification and soothing qualities.

It is said that Snow Quartz can give us the vision of a child so that we can see, without contamination, learned habits and conditioning.

Snow quartz is a valuable mediation crystal.

Physically, among other uses, Snow quartz is said to be used to sooth menopause symptoms.

This variety of quartz is associated with the crown chakra.

MARCH - Jasper

We continue with our focus on March. 

As mentioned in earlier posts this month, the modern birthstone for March is Aquamarine. The traditional birthstone is Bloodstone.  The ancient Hindu birthstone for March is Opal.  The mystical birthstone for March is Jade.  The ancient Hebrew, Italian and Russian birthstone for March is Jasper. 

The two astrological sun signs that fall within the month of March are Pisces and Aries.  The sun sign stone of Pisces is Sapphire and Bloodstone and the Talismanic stone is Ruby.  The sun sign stone for Aries is Diamond as well as Bloodstone and the talismanic stone is Topaz. 

Today we are going to highlight the ancient Hebrew, Italian and Russian birthstone, Jasper.   Jasper is from the quartz family and its hardness is between 6.5 and 7.  The energies are very similar to our post on Bloodstone as Bloodstone is Jasper.

Jasper, in ancient times, was worn by shamans and kings as it is a powerful protection stone and helps to ground.

Jasper is known as the supreme nurturer and its energy is slow and continual. This piece is said to draw strength and vitality and assists us in being loving and compassionate. 

Jasper is said to enhance tranquility and helps us to eliminate stress.   

There are far too many types of Jasper to mention here.  Today’s piece is yellow Jasper. 

Jasper, in general, aligns the chakras.

BLOODSTONE

Welcome to March.

Bloodstone can assist with the clarity when trying to make good decision as it helps to clear impatience and aggressiveness from the scenario. 

Bloodstone is said to cleanse our energy as well as our blood.  It benefits blood rich organs and circulation.  It is a powerful healer.

Bloodstone is associated with the lower chakras.
