JASPER PENDANT – VIRGO BIRTH/SUN STONE

We entered the sun sign of Virgo on August 23, 2019.  Virgo’s sunstones or birthstones include Carnelian, Jade, Jasper, Moss Agate, and Blue Sapphire. (Carnelian, for interest sake, is the alternative birthstone of Ruby for July as well.)  On Tuesday, we highlighted Carnelian.  Today we are highlighting Jasper.

Jasper is from the quartz family and it has a hardness of between 6.5 and 7 on the Mohs scale. 

Jasper, in ancient times, was worn by shamans and kings as it is said to be a powerful protection stone and helps to ground.

Jasper is known as the supreme nurturer and its energy is slow and continual. This piece is said to draw strength and vitality and assists us in being loving and compassionate. 

Jasper is said to enhance tranquility and helps us to eliminate stress.

Today’s highlighted stone is brecciated Jasper which stimulates the base chakra and the sacral chakra.  Jasper in general aligns the chakras.

VIRGO BIRTHSTONE- CARNELIAN

Today we are featuring Carnelian which is chalcedony quartz and has a hardness of 6.5 to 7.

In ancient times, Carnelian was used as an amulet or talisman. Carnelian is a high energy grounding and stabilizing stone. 

Carnelian is the stone of choice to help remove fear and create courage. It is used for concentration and to calms anger.

Carnelian is also associated with creativity and stimulates energy and drive thus it is a motivational stone.

In healing, it is said to influence the female reproductive organs and is said to be beneficial for depression.

Carnelian is associated with the second or sacral chakra.

UNAKITE

Unakite is from the granite family.  The green mineral in Unakite is epidote with a hardness of 6 to 7 on the Mohs scale and the pink/orange mineral is orthoclase with a hardness of 6.  Unakite also consists of clear Quartz.  According to geology.com Unakite can also contain apatite, chromite, ilmenite, magnetite, zircon, along with other minerals.

Unakite is the stone used for visualization, psychic visions, meditation, psychic work and casting.

It brings awareness to issues from the past so that we can deal with our blockages. Unakite is also used for past life healing.   It is said that Unakite can assist us in finding the root cause of disease resulting from recent or distant past issues. 

Unakite helps us with electromagnetic pollution from computers, cell phones and televisions which makes Unakite invaluable in today’s life style.

Physically, Unakite is said to be beneficial when recovering from illness as well as for our reproductive systems.

BLUE QUARTZ

 Blue quartz comes by its colour from inclusions. There are three different types of blue quartz. There is the course grained blue quartz with inclusions of blue minerals such as Dumortierite. The second type is a crystalline quartz which has a more even distribution of blue minerals such as tourmaline and the third type of blue quartz crystal has a very fine scattering of tiny inclusions. Like most other quartz, blue quartz has a hardness of 7.

Blue quartz is known for its balancing energies. It is suggested that this stone be used for those whose emotions are extreme or for those whose have difficulty expressing their emotions.

When we are able to express and deal with our own emotions, only then can we have the ability to understand other people’s emotions.

Blue quartz is an ideal choice for those beginning, maintaining or healing their relationships.

Blue quartz has been used as a talisman during recovery from addictions and destructive behaviors.

Blue quartz balances the Throat Chakra but is also used when working with the upper chakras.

BLUE QUARTZ COLLAR

BALTIC AMBER

Our very popular Baltic Amber is a fossilized tree resin that is used similarly to any other crystal, mineral or stone in jewellery creations.  Its hardness ranges from 2 to 2.5. 

When amber is worn against the skin, the nugget or bead is naturally warmed by our body and the bead releases small amounts of healing oils (succinic acid). Sapphire – AUGUST BIRTHSTONE

Birthstones for the month of August include alexandrite, carnelian, diamond, peridot, ruby, sardonyx, and sapphire.  In Astrology, the signs of Leo and Virgo which fall in the month of August include citrine, jade, jasper onyx, tourmaline and zircon.

Today we are highlighting Sapphire which is also the Zodiac stone (Sunstone) of Taurus, old birthstone of April, current birthstone of September and the Thursday birthday stone.

Our highlighted piece has been created in copper but can be created with any preference of metal. Copper is often used specifically for its conductive abilities.

Sapphire is a variety of the mineral corundum and aluminum oxide and has a hardness of 9. 

Sapphire is known as the stone of wisdom and brings peace of mind.  This is the stone of prophecy.

Sapphire aligns the physical, mental and spiritual.

The blue sapphire shown here is associated with love and purity and helps us to stay on our spiritual path.

Sapphire calms and regulates the body. It is said to treat disorders associates with the blood and strengthens veins.

RUBY – AUGUST BIRTHSTONE

Ruby is one of the precious gemstones.  Ruby is the red variety of the mineral Corundum and Sapphire is the blue variety.  Essentially Ruby is a red Sapphire and has a hardness of 9.

It is rare to find ruby on its own in metaphysically jewellery pieces.  Frequently it is found in Zoisite (a green stone) which makes it much more affordable.  Today our highlighted post is a Ruby in Zoisite set.

Ruby is a very powerful stone.   It is said to help us shake off limitations and promotes joy, courage and strength.  It promotes enthusiasm and enthusiasm in turn helps us to live life.  This stone is suggested during times of feeling exhaustion.
