The Eye of Horus ("all seeing
eye") is an ancient Egyptian symbol representing royal power, protection and good
health. This symbol was and is a protective amulet.
The Egyptians used the Eye of Horus
as a notation of measurement particularly for measuring the ingredients in
medicines and pigments. The symbol was divided into six parts, representing the
shattering of Horus´ eye into six pieces. Each of these six pieces was
associated with one of the six senses (smell, sight, thought, hearing, taste
and touch) and was a specific fraction.
