Amethyst and Bloodstone are the two birthstones of February. The traditional birthstone is Amethyst. Please see our February 1 post for information on Amethyst.
Bloodstone is the Mystical birthstone.
Within the month of February, we will experience both Aquarius and Pisces sun
signs. Amethyst is a sunstone of both Aquarius and Pisces. Now that we are in
the sign of Pisces we will look further into the birthstone/sunstones for Pisces
in the coming days.
Today we are highlight Bloodstone.
Bloodstone is the mineral Heliotrope which
is a variety of Jasper or chalcedony.
Bloodstone has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.
Jasper, as a whole, in ancient times, was
worn by shamans and kings as it is a powerful protection stone and helps to
ground.
Jasper is known as the supreme nurturer and
its energy is slow and continual.
Bloodstone is said to specifically draws
strength and vitality and is known to assists us in being loving and
compassionate. It is said to assist with courage, living in the moment and
calming the mind.
Bloodstone is used to assist with clarity when
trying to make good decision as it is said to help to clear impatience and
aggressiveness.
Metaphysically it is known to be a powerful
healer and is associated with the lower chakras.
