GARNET, PISCES SUNSTONE

As promised, we are focusing on the sun sign of Pisces.  The Pisces birthstones (also known as the sunstones) are aquamarine, amethyst, bloodstone, garnet, clear quartz, and sapphire.  The talisman for Pisces is ruby.

 

Today we are highlighting Garnet which has a hardness of 6.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale.

 

Garnet has been used in jewellery since the Bronze Age (in the third millennium BC). Garnet comes in an array of colours from the classic red to red/violet, ambers, oranges, yellows and greens. Today’s highlighted garnet is a deep red which only reflects back under light.

 

Garnet is associated with love and passion and is known as the stone of commitment. Garnet is used to amplify and it is said to draw the qualities we are looking for in a relationship such as trust and devotion. It has been said that its energy bring luck with love.

 

Metaphysically, Garnet’s energies are used for success and to assist in reaching our goals.

 

Garnet is used to activate and amplify other crystals.

 

This is an intense stone which stimulates both the crown and the root chakras.

FEBRUARY MYSTICAL BIRTHSTONE - BLOODSTONE

Amethyst and Bloodstone are the two birthstones of February. The traditional birthstone is Amethyst.  Please see our February 1 post for information on Amethyst.

 

Bloodstone is the Mystical birthstone. Within the month of February, we will experience both Aquarius and Pisces sun signs. Amethyst is a sunstone of both Aquarius and Pisces. Now that we are in the sign of Pisces we will look further into the birthstone/sunstones for Pisces in the coming days.

 

Today we are highlight Bloodstone.

 

Bloodstone is the mineral Heliotrope which is a variety of Jasper or chalcedony.  Bloodstone has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.

 

Jasper, as a whole, in ancient times, was worn by shamans and kings as it is a powerful protection stone and helps to ground.

 

Jasper is known as the supreme nurturer and its energy is slow and continual.

 

Bloodstone is said to specifically draws strength and vitality and is known to assists us in being loving and compassionate. It is said to assist with courage, living in the moment and calming the mind.

 

Bloodstone is used to assist with clarity when trying to make good decision as it is said to help to clear impatience and aggressiveness.

 

Metaphysically it is known to be a powerful healer and is associated with the lower chakras.

Amethyst and Bloodstone are the two birthstones of February. The traditional birthstone is Amethyst and Bloodstone is the Mystical birthstone. Within the month of February, we will experience both Aquarius and Pisces sun signs. Amethyst is a sunstone of both Aquarius and Pisces.  There are several other birthstone/sunstones for Aquarius including Agate, Garnet, Jasper Opal and Turquoise. We will look further into the sunstones of Pisces when we enter that sign in a few weeks.

 

Today we are highlight Amethyst. Amethyst is from the quartz family and has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.

 

Amethyst is one of the most popular of the healing stones and is considered the master healer.

 

Amethyst is a stone associated with calm, sincerity, protection and purification and its energies are also associated with the psychic realm.

 

Amethyst comes from the Greek word “methustos” which can be translated as intoxicated. This stone has been used for centuries in association with sobriety and is also used for other addictions. It is said that Amethyst assists with the elimination of cravings.

 

In healing, Amethyst is not only used on those being healed but also is worn by the healer as its energies heal the healer.

 

Amethyst is associates with the crown chakra.
