Birthstones for the month of December include the modern
birthstones Turquoise, Tanzanite and blue Topaz, the traditional birthstones Lapis
Lazuli and Zircon, the mystical stone Onyx and the talisman Beryl. Also there are sun stones for Capricorn (Ruby,
Agate, Garnet and Onyx) and Sagittarius (Topaz, Amethyst Ruby, Sapphire and
Turquoise) as these sun signs fall within the month of December.
Today we are highlighting Lapis Lazuli which is comprised of
lazurite (25% to 40%), calcite and pyrite. It has a hardness of 5 to 5.5 on the
Mohs scale.
Lapis Lazuli was the favoured stone of the pharaohs. It has always been associated with royalty
and divine beings. Lapis Lazuli is believed to pass on the ancient knowledge
and wisdom of Isis, the Egyptian Sky Goddess.
Lapis Lazuli is the stone of truth. It promotes inner truth,
self-awareness, harmony and is an excellent choice to assist in releasing stress
and in finding peace.
Lapis Lazuli is associated with good judgement and wisdom. Its energies are said to stimulate promotion
and success.
Lapis Lazuli is used for ailments of the throat and ears and
is said to help with general pain and inflammation.
This stone is associated with the throat chakra as well as
the third eye chakra.
