Clear Crystal Quartz has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale and quartz is the most common mineral found on our planet.  These points are sculptured by nature, and no two points are ever the same.  Be sure to look at the crystal faces of your point.  There are many different degrees and angles.

In general crystal quartz are amplifiers which expand the white energy of our higher self. It is said that Clear Quartz will assist us in achieving clarity in our communication abilities as well as our own personal thoughts.

ARIES - CITRINE

In keeping with our focus on the sun sign of Aries, we are highlighting Citrine today.  The many stones associated with Aries include (but not limited to) Amethyst, Anyolite, Aquamarine, Aventurine, Axinite, Bloodstone, Citrine, Diamond, Emerald, Fire Agate, Magnesite, Magnetite, Stilbite to name some of the more common ones.

Citrine has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale and is from the quartz family. The colour of citrine can vary from light yellow to a light orange-yellow. Most citrine on the market is heated amethyst which may have been treated naturally by Mother Nature or may have been treated by humans.  Heated Amethyst, sold as citrine, can range in colour from dark yellow to a dark red-yellow.  Smokey quartz can also be treated to turn yellow. According to minerals.net, all heat-treated “citrine” has a red tint. Some very light natural Citrine can be sold under the name of “Lemon Quartz”. 

True Citrine’s energies are associated with abundance and it is known as the success stone.  It is also associated with happiness. 

Citrine increases and clarifies personal power and energy.

Citrine is used to removing toxins and is said to be helpful with overcoming addictions.

CITRINE

ARIES - APACHE TEARS

 In honour of just entering into the sun sign of Aries, we thought we would highlight Apache Tears, one of the sunstones associated with Aries. The many stones associated with Aries include (but not limited to) Amethyst, Anyolite, Aquamarine, Aventurine, Axinite, Bloodstone, Citrine, Diamond, Emerald, Fire Agate, Magnesite,  Magnetite, Stilbite to name a few.

Apache Tears is a common name for round small black obsidian nodules which are made of volcanic glass. Apache tears are 5 to 5.5 in hardness on the Mohs scale. These stones are brittle and chip easily so it is important to be careful when storing them with other stones. As a side note, I actually prefer the chipped nuggets as this give them dimension and more reflection….character if you will.

Apache tears are good luck stones.  They are grounding and are known to give protection.  Just as with any black obsidian, Apache tears protect us from negativity in our surroundings and from within (such as negative thoughts and reactions). 

Because of its positive effects on negative situations, Apache tears are used to relieve grief and sadness.

This stone is an excellent tool for those that give support during stressful situations.

Physically, Apache Tears have been used for muscle spasms and to boost the immune system.

Apophyllite is the general name for the grouping of three sub classifications - Fluorapophyllite, Hydroxyapophyllite and Natroapophyllite.  Apophyllite has a hardness of 4.5 to 5 and usually comes in the pyramid form.  Apophyllite can come in a variety of colours but the most popular is clear.

Apophyllite is said to carry the Akashic Record and is a powerful vibration transmitter. 

Apophyllite is a must with Reiki healing.

Apopyllite is a wonderful tool for developing intuition and its energies are inspirational. This is the ideal tool when working with the higher chakras.  Apopyllite is invaluable when working with the third eye and Crown Chakras as it is predominantly a spiritual crystal.

Agate, which is from the quartz family, has a hardness of 6.5 to 7 and comes in a variety of colours and bands.   Our featured agate today is “Black Agate”.

Black Agate is a stone said to assist us in dealing with stress and to help us remain calm. This provides inner strength and emphasizes courage.  It could be called the worry stone.

As with most black stones and minerals, Black Agate is a grounding tool and is associated with our root chakra.

Black Agate is also associated with fertility and the reproductive organs. It is a perfect energy choice for pregnancy and menopause.

Our highlighted pearl necklace has a shell centre focal piece.  Shell in general has a hardness of about 3.5 to 4 and is one of the oldest used objects used to create jewellery.

Amethyst is the purple variety from the quartz family and can range from light to dark purpose and from clear purple to a solid colour.  The clear gem grade Amethyst is the most popular version of the mineral.  Amethyst, as with all quartz has a hardness of 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale. 

Amethyst is one of the most popular of the healing stones and is considered the master healer.

Amethyst is a stone associated with sincerity, protection and purification.  

Amethyst's energies are also associated with the psychic realm.

Amethyst comes from the Greek word methustos which can be translated as intoxicated. This stone has been used for centuries in association with sobriety and is also used for other addictions.  It is said that Amethyst assists with the elimination of cravings.

AMETHYST PENDANT

AFRICAN TURQUOISE (JASPER)

In our post yesterday, we mentioned that Howlite is dyed and sold as Turquoise.  The stone in today’s highlight piece is called African Turquoise.  African Turquoise is not actually true turquoise but is teal Jasper mined in Africa.  It has the same structure and colour tones as turquoise.  African Turquoise has a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale.  African Turquoise can range in colour from emerald to teal blue.  The word “Turquoise” is derived from French and is translated as “Turkish Stone”. 

African Turquoise is a transformational and evolutionary stone.  It is said to assists us in moving forward and being open to new ideas and concepts.  It helps us to be open to change, growth and new possibilities. 

African Turquoise is associated with wisdom.

Lapis Lazuli is comprised of lazurite (25% to 40%), calcite and pyrite. It has a hardness of 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale.

Lapis Lazuli was the favoured stone of the pharaohs.  It has always been associated with royalty and divine beings. Lapis Lazuli is believed to pass on the ancient knowledge and wisdom of Isis, the Egyptian Sky Goddess.

Lapis Lazuli is the stone of truth. It promotes inner truth, self-awareness, harmony and is an excellent choice to assist in releasing stress and in finding peace.

Lapis Lazuli is associated with good judgement and wisdom.  Its energies are said to stimulate promotion and success.

LAPIS LAZULI NECKLACE WITH ABALONE

Howlite is a cauliflower shaped stone with a hardness of 3.5 and is seldom found in crystal form. Frequently Howlite is dyed (as with today’s highlighted pendant).  Unfortunately, many vendors sell dyed Howlite as Turquoise. In its natural form, Howlite is white with grey to black veins. 

Howlite is known to still the mind, relieves stress, and is calming. As a result, it is excellent for sleep. Howlite encourages patience. 

This is an attunement stone & is linked to the spiritual dimensions. It opens us to insights & wisdom and is a perfect tool for meditation.

Howlite is said to help us become aware of our goals and ambitions and its energies aid in achieving these goals.

Physically, Howlite is said to be used for pain, and issues related to our bones, just to name a couple.

Unakite is from the granite family.  The green mineral in Unakite is epidote with a hardness of 6 to 7 on the Mohs scale and the pink (orangish) mineral is orthoclase with a hardness of 6.  Unakite also consists of clear Quartz.  According to geology.com Unakite can also contain apatite, chromite, ilmenite, magnetite, zircon, and other minerals.

Unakite is the stone used for visualization, psychic visions, meditation, psychic work and casting.

Jasper (a derivative from a Greek word meaning spotted stone) is from the quartz family and comes in many spots, stripes and colours.  Jasper is typically a 6.5 to 7 in hardness on the Mohs scale.  Today’s showcased piece is made from pink Zebra Jasper.

Jasper is known as the nurturing and protection stone.

Zebra Jasper is a motivational and energizing stone. It enhances our abilities to dream and to fulfill these dreams.  It is said to help us to experience the joy in life and is specific to contentment.

HEMATITE, AMBER & CLEAR CRYSTAL

Our featured bracelet has been created with Hematite, Clear Quartz and Baltic Amer. 

Hematite is an iron oxide with trace amounts of titanium and has a hardness of 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale.  It is a myth that Hematite is magnetic on its own.  Hematite is only magnetic if it contains enough magnetite.  

Crystal quartz has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale and is the most common mineral found on our planet.  

Baltic Amber which has a hardness of 2 to 2.5 on the Mohs scale is a fossilized tree resin but it is used as any other crystal, stone or mineral in jewellery. 

Hematite is grounding, protective and enhances expansion, peace and harmony. Hematite harmonizes the spirit, mind and body. It stimulates memory, concentration and focus. It is used to assist with addictions and is well known to help with blood supply.  It is effective in dealing with pain because it maintains the charge of nerve cells.  Hematite is also beneficial for leg cramps and anxiety.

We welcome the month of March.  The birthstones for March are Aquamarine and bloodstone.  We highlights Aquamarine yesterday as one of the birthstones/sunstones of Pisces.  We will highlight yet another beautiful Aquamarine creation today. 

As mentioned yesterday, Aquamarine is from the Beryl family.  Aquamarine comes by its lovely greeny or sea blue colour from iron impurities in the colourless, glassy beryl crystal. It has a hardness of 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale.  Aquamarine is also one of the sunstones of Gemini and the birthstone for the month of March.
