CLEANSING OUR STONES

I have been asked the best ways to cleanse our stones and jewellery.

The most popular way of cleansing and recharging our stones is in the light of the full moon (or by sunlight).  Some choose to place their stones and jewellery outside on the ground.  Setting them outside you take the change of their getting wet especially at this time of year with the heavy dew if you are utilizing the moon.  Most stones do not mind getting wet but there are some that this is not suggested.

Selenite (including Dessert Rose), Halite, and Himalayan salt will dissolve if they get wet.

Needless to say, it is important that you can identify your stone types.

Some articles warn that certain stones can be damaged if they get wet such as Angelite, Calcite, Celestite, Lepidolite, Mica, Muscovite, Opal, and Pearls, to name a few.

Some stones such as Hematite can rust and some such as Pyrite can give off sulfuric acid if they get wet.

A good rule of thumb, when in doubt, keep them inside on the windowsill if using sun or moon energies for cleansing.  Remember that some stones such as Aquamarine, Rose Quartz, Beryl, Citrine, Kunzite, Aventurine, Sapphires, Fluorite, Rose and Smokey Quartz, Amethyst, etc. will fade in direct sunlight.

For those stones that you know are safe with water, particularly for those of us that incorporate our stones in healing, running water is a quick and effective alternative.

If you are uncertain of the safety of water, smudging and reiki cleansing are also great alternatives.  Also, Selenite can be used to cleanse other stones.

There are a few stones that do not require cleansing such as Sacred Seven, Kyanite, Selenite, Citrine, and Azeztulite as they do not absorb energy.  However, if you feel they need cleansing, go with your gut.

Some stones such as malachite should be cleansed after every use or after each time they have been worn if they are part of your jewellery.

Remember if you are cleansing stones that have been created into jewellery, consider the metals used in the creation.  Choose a cleansing method that will work for the stone but will not harm the metal.

Keep the questions coming……..
