As suggested by its name, Rose Quartz is a member of the Quartz family and has a hardness of 7. The colour is usually muted but occasionally can be found a vivid pink. Rose quartz is generally not treated. Garnet has a hardness of 6.5 to 7.5 and has been used in jewellery since the Bronze Age which was in the third millennium BC.
